“There are better hotels nearby”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

A hotel with large rooms and comfortable beds, but better values are nearby. Pay extra for WiFi and breakfast--a nickel and dime approach that pervades everything about the hotel I found out the the shower was broken when I woke up the next morning. Getting another room was not an option since I had to check out early; yet they did not apologize or give me a discount for the trouble. Poor service and value. Look elsewhere.

The Steigenberger Grand Hotel was the perfect choice for our last night in Europe! The rooms are very spacious, the staff was extremely gracious and accommodating, and the beds were beyond comfortable after a stretch of uncomfortable beds in other locations. We were so cozy sleeping in until we needed to leave for the airport (only 20 minutes away), so we were disappointed to miss breakfast. I would definitely recommend this hotel and plan to return!

I normally visit the Steigenberger Grand Hotel in Brussels only for business. This time I brought my family for a weekend in Brussels. The whole family was fully satisfied. Our suite was big enough for a couple with three kids (12, 10 and 4 years old) The flexibility of the hotel by preparing a family room and prparing dinner for our three kids in the room was greatly appreciated. The "voituriers" did equally a great job and kept our car at our permanent disposal!

This is by far the best hotel in Brussels. You should think of staying here. Although it's not very close to the grand place (20 minutes walking), but the neighborhood is really nice and elegant and great for shoppers and business travelers. The rooms are so spacious and beautiful, the lobby area is so grand. The breakfast is lovely as well. Very good one!!

I arrived to visit my son that had chosen this landmark location for my reunion. As we checked into our room no amenities awaited in our suite besides all the light swichs did not work and the lamps where missing light bulbs.
The mattress on our bed is similar to a roller coster. Ouch by poor back...!
After visiting Brugges and Gante , wonderful historical cities by the way, we came back to the GRANDHOTEL and decided to have dinner @ the only restaurant of the amenity. We ordered our meal and I asked for a nice Leffe beer. The waitress didn't know how and there was a mousse explosion on our table.! The tablecloth and mug where all wet from the explosion and sweetly she said I'm truly sorry sir I usually drink my beer without the mousse and left the glass half empty, the table cloth all soiled. The Maitre D was running all over the place doing nothing until a customer asked foe a bottle of wine and he happily started a wine tasting contest with the client. We had to wait 20 minutes to be attended and could not get an expresso.
We came furious back to our room and in the hall way they are cigaret buts scattered on the flor and room service tables unattended since morning.
If you really want to enjoy your stay in Brussels please be my guest.

We had a romantic stay in the Steigenberger hotel in Brussels and enjoyed it very much. A very friendly staff, the car was parked for us, our suitcase was brought into our room, a nice welcome voucher for a drink in the Jazz Bar and a Nespresso machine to our free exposal in the room.

If I have to be critical, the only minor thing was the breakfast. Not the food, but the space, logistics and organization. All tables were very close to each other, even so close you were afraid to move your chair as you would bump into your neighbor. Next to this, there were way more guests as there were seats. Because of the nice weather. people could be offered to have a seat outside on the terrace with a drink where they could wait until a table would be available... What to do when it would rain or freeze?

Room Tip: In this hotel any room is good... We had the standard room and it was just perfect. We had a room wi...

When this hotel was first opened it was a Conrad and it was considered as the best in town. Presidents and celebrities would stay there when in Brussels. Well we have the same taste. The hotel has lost a bit of its splendor compared to some 20 years ago but it’s still the best in my opinion.
Reception welcome was friendly and efficient.
Room was large and really nicely decorated.
Bathrooms are reminiscent of the Conrad times: all marble with large bath tub and separate shower. Very 5 star.
To make me even happier there was a complimentary Nespresso coffee machine. I was home! However, quite soon I heard drilling noise and went to see where it came from. I met some employees who told me there was construction work above us in a bathroom. One immediately offered to check if we could get another room. We were quite fast moved to a quieter room. Everybody was very helpful. We were so well there that we extended our stay and only left because on the following dates the hotel was full. I could make this my home in Brussels. The bed is wonderful, the bed sheets which are changed every day are wonderful. The closet is large.
This hotel is an oasis in the middle of craziness, noise and dirt. The good point about being near to the shopping area is that whatever you may need you can get within walking distance: stores, restaurants. But except that, the avenue Louise is a nightmare: horribly dirty sidewalks, beggars, police sirens howling constantly as they rush driving prisoners from courthouse to jail. I will never insist enough on not recommending Brussels for tourism to anyone. You only come here if you’ve got business to do in town, otherwise save your money for another nicer, cleaner, more interesting destination.
As for the food, I tried a continental breakfast once but was not delighted: way too expensive for some burned toasts. At home I’d have thrown them away, it’s amazing they dare to serve this to a client. I took my breakfasts at Pain Quotidien (you walk out of the hotel, cross the street and take it right and straight on): complete quality organic breakfast for half the price. For lunch and diner I went to the restaurant street (out of the hotel on the left second street down in the shopping area). Where you find all kinds of restaurants: Chinese, Japanese, Italian, French, whatever.
All in all, if they are not fully booked, in Brussels I’m not going anywhere else than the Steigenberger.

Room Tip: To make sure you get a nicely renovated room book a superior one and also avoid the first floor over...
