“Great value for a weekend out, very central”

Stayed here for a weekend out in Brussels on a '2-nights including breakfast' deal. Very good value for money and very central (the most central of the NH hotels in Brussels actually).
Breakfast in the morning was good, with a wide offering of food and drinks. The hotel offered car parking (limited places available, no reservations taken) under the hotel for EUR 22 a day. If you come by train, the Brussels central station is at easy walking distance. Locationwise, you can't do much better in my opinion (I lived in the city roughly a decade ago, wish it had been near here). Within 5 minutes walk, you have one of the beautiful squares, the Grand Place. Also just down the street (follow the S-curve down), you have the best restaurant - both food and atmosphere - in Brussels, the Belga Queen (reservations are a must, they are always full). Around the corner, there's the cafe brasserie A La Mort Subite, with it's interior from 1910 and great beers. Also around the corner is the mid-19th century, oldest arcaded shopping street in Europe. Hope this helps (otherwise, feel free to ask).

We booked the NH Grand Place Arenberg through European Destinations. We arrived from the USA at 8:00 am travelling in a group of 10. We were able to check in when we arrived. They did warn us that they were experiencing issues with the hot water and we not have any. They gave us the option of staying or finding somewhere else. We decided to stay since we were only there for 2 nights and had read such good reviews of the hotel. The rooms were great! They were very large, exceptionally clean, and modern. They provided any toiletrie you could think of. We even got a chocolate on our pillow. The hotel staff were very accomodating and friendly. The breakfast was good (eggs, sausage, bacon, cereal, fruit, fresh cheese and meat, baked goods, etc.). The hotel was about a 4 minute walk from the central train station and very convienent to find (I got a map of mappy.com). Close to the Grand Place and Grote Market - about a 5 minute walk through interesting little side streets. The cathedral is up the street from the hotel (my room had a view of it). We are very satisfied with the NH Grand Place Arenberg and happy we decided to stay. (BTW: we did not experience any trouble with the hot water. It may have been too hot at times.)

“Excellent for the money!”

NH Grand Place Arenberg

Jan 4, 2008

We have just returned from a 2 day stay in this hotel.
This is a great hotel in a great location and more than you would expect for the price.
It is only a few minutes walk to the Grand Place and very near the train station so there was no need to mess about with taxis or buses anytime during the trip.

Rooms are modern, clean and well fitted out (posh toiletries included!)

We did not have breakfast so I can't comment on that one, although I don't think it was cheap!

Check out was at midday which was great as it meant not having to rush out in the morning like in many hotels.

The only downside was the thin walls but it didn't really affect the stay at all.

We would definitely reccomend it!

When we arrived at NH we were really pleasantly surprised at how nice it was especially for the price paid. The furnitshings were very upscale and modern and the room was clean and outfitted with all the amenities - chocolate on the pillow, designer toiletries etc.
problems began the following day when I couldnt use my hairdrier cause none of the outlets were standard european...they had some sort of bar sticking out which required an attachement borrowed from front desk...which woudl have been just fine had the front desk been PICKING UP THEIR PHONE!! ( even roadside motels have someone in teh front to pick up a phone call ) anyway, theline was busy for like 10 minutes....finally i just called the external number with my cell phone, call was picked up right away ---very odd and unprofesisonal.
Then the most annoying part was when we checked in we SPECIFICALLY asked if breakfast was includedin our rate. we had the front desk attendant ask his manager, dbl check our reservation and tell us DEFINTELY YES...it was included.
come time to check out, we findthat we are being charged an extra EUR 19.99 per person for the mediocre at best, breakfast buffet. Normal high end hotels would let the charge go if brought to their attention that you were mis-informed upon check-in, or at LEAST meet you half way and take off one breakfast...but not NH...they simply said, " sorry , your problem "
that was just a stupid move for a supposedly 4* hotel. Very unprofessional

Location: 5-10min walk to main train station and main square. Safe, quiet & friendly.

Room: We stayed in a double. Large sized room in European terms. Cleanliness was very good. Bathroom very good. Bed was good, nice and firm. Trendy decor. The only downside was the Air conditioning was broken throughout the hotel at the time we stayed.

Service: The staff were helpful, no problems.

Value: Great price (Breakfast incl), good location, we'd stay there again.
