We've just got back from a short break in Brussels and stayed at The Royal Windsor hotel, chosen following the reviews on this site.
It's a wonderful hotel, with very friendly and welcoming staff. The location is fantastic, very central to everywhere and only a few minutes from the Grand Place, the Place Agora and the Central Station (which is different from the Midi Station where the Eurostar drops you off).
The hotel itself is lovely, it's very much a five star hotel that caters just as well for tourists as business guests. The reception staff are really friendly and helpful, they have a luggage room to store bags if you have to check out a while before leaving for your return journey and are more than willing to order you a taxi or just hail you one in the street.
We had breakfast included in our room and the waiting staff in the breakfast room were also as friendly and helpful. The waitress even remembered our tea/coffee order each morning and put us on the same table, which was a very nice touch. There's a wide range of food: cooked breakfast, cereal, pastries, croissants, fresh fruit, yoghurt, smoked salmon, ham, cheeses... no toast, no boiled eggs and no sauces that we saw, although to be fair we didn't ask! (didn't affect us at all but I'm sure somone reading this might appreciate knowing!), breakfast goes on until 10:30, which was a slightly more reasonable time than some hotels we've stayed in.
The room itself was absolutely fine, we've stayed in bigger rooms but we've stayed in a lot smaller ones as well. It had enough room for the two of us and lots of luggage. The bed gets a special mention because it was the most comfortable bed, with lovely plump pillows and big too! It was hard to get out of it in the morning because it was soooo nice. The hotel has a turn down service, so it was a really nice surprize to come back to the room on the first night to find chocolates on the pillow.
The bathroom was really nice, bathrobes supplied and the shower was great - very powerful. The room service is also good, speedy and quite tasty - portions are on the petit size for the price but we looked upon it as a nice treat.
Would recommend T'Kellderke on the Grand Place for nice stoemp and sausages, Delerium Bar (near the Jennekin Pi) for beer (2004 different beers to try and get through), Dali bar for good music, open-top bus tour for getting your bearings and seeing all the places you can go to and a trip to Bruges - trains go from the central station every half hour and it costs about 22 euros - well worth it.
Also, (this has been mentioned before) cobbled streets and heels don't go together so, any girlies out there, make sure you take flat shoes or trainers.
top tip: GB Express on the Anspach had a good selection of Belgian beer at very reasonable prices.
All in all a great time, would go back to this hotel without a doubt should we go back to Brussels.
