Stayed here before on a couple's holiday, this time it was a lads' holiday for the Brussels Beer Weekend!
Firstly the positives. This hotel is CHEAP. Compare accommodation in Brussels to other European cities and it is clear this small Belgian capital is an absolute bargain. And this hotel is too! And it really is exceptional value. It has all the services and facilities you could hope for from a high-end hotel in an urban setting. I didn't have a chance to check out the leisure facilities, but I see fitness centres and saunas as great extras to have available on site. I didn't use any of the on site catering facilities either, however there is a very cool looking bar, as well as a bar/restaurant, and a nightclub, as well as 24 hour room service of course. But there isn't really any need to stay in because this hotel has an absolutely stunning location.
Touristy restaurants are right next to the hotel in the Greek part of town, but a stone's throw away is the Grand Place, and within a few blocks' radius there are countless restaurants, bars, cafes and shops, as well as the beautiful sites and backdrops of central Brussels. It's a short walk to almost everything. Frankly there is only maybe one hotel with a better location than the Royal Windsor, in the whole of Brussels.
As some may mention, this isn't a true 5* hotel experience of course, however I personally think this is actually a bit of a positive. It means it is not too snooty, nor too expensive, but it is cheap relatively, and you feel you are staying somewhere a little bit special.
The rooms are comfortable with very good beds and a more sophisticated decor. The bathroom feels very lavish. I have stayed in a double previously, in which I found the bed to be adequate size-wise and comfortable, and likewise in a twin room I found the bed to be comfortable and for there to be just enough room to share for a short stay.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, however I did find there to be occassionally a sense of being looked-down upon for not being a sort of high-class guest. There were a few bits of the room that weren't cleaned. Parking is expensive at €25 per 24 hours, but is right below the hotel.
I think overall the price, comfort, location, facilities and services offered by this hotel are unbeatable, and certainly I can't see anywhere else I would rather stay in Brussels. I would highly recommend it to anyone, particularly couples I think, as it is a relaxing break from the sometimes busy atmosphere of Brussels, and feels a little opulent but still comfortable to be in. It's also nice to get back to after a night out.
Next time I go to Brussels I know I will stay here, and would strongly recommend it to anyone I know who was going there.
