“Classic hotel in Brussels good for a short stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Nice hotel, classic features, and friendly staff. I stayed here for four nights and recommend it for a short stay in Brussels. It is convenient to metro and easy to find. The neighbourhood is a shopping district and there is little night life around. However, it's a short walk to the old town city centre so very convenient if you want to see the city.

The hotel is pretty old and it could be easily noticed in the rooms: chairs with spots, squeaky doors, etc. And you don't receive everything that you are expect to have in a 5 stars hotel: no bathrobe, no sneakers, ironing board and only one free electrical socket in a room. The breakfast is not bad, but 100% the same everyday. And hey, where are the boiled eggs? In a triple room, we had three single beds, instead of one double and one single. And its always dark there because there is no lamp on the ceiling. However, the location is great: just two steps from the tube and from the City 2 shopping center. The staff is very friendly and helpful. But the price asked for the room seems to be twice higher, than it should be.

I liked almost everything about this hotel. When I arrived the hotel there was quite a long queque waiting for check-in. Reception staff was moving really fast and it took less time than could have been expected. The room was spacious with a huge bed, the sleeping quality was really good. Speed of the Internet was a little bit low in the evenings. Breakfast was enjoyable with a variety of fresh vegetales and fruits, pastries were also tasty and service was quick and friendly.

We were so pleasantly suprised at how beautiful this hotel was. Excellent room with the biggest bed we have ever seen! One issue was that the plugs were nowhere near the vanity mirror so a bit difficult to use tongs etc. from the other side of the room...obviously not designed by a lady!!! Lovely, helpful staff.

This Art Deco hotel is close to the centre of Brussels. The hotel is about 5 minutes from Nord station or 20 minutes from Midi by taxi. Taxi's are reluctant to take the journey back to Nord so beware on departure. The reception from the staff was welcoming and the room semi-luxurious given the price - approx £125.00 per night booked through Expedia.Uk. The breakfast was good and the bar is plush with comfortable furnishings but the drinks are quite pricey. The hotel has adopted a strictly no smoking policy which includes the bar. A real treat is to get a visit to the theatre which was built into the hotel. The local area includes shopping, some red light shops and the main tourist area. There is a local metro and the nearby shops include a Waterstones if one requires decent local guide books. All in all an excellent hotel in a really fun area - will stay again.

The hotel is very nice for those who like the pompous old-fashined style. Staff was very friendly and efficient, and the rooms were big, clean and well kept. Even though the hotel is old, the standard is very good, and felt well-maintained.

Only drawback is the actual neighborhood, which has a fair share of sleazy shops. However, I never felt unsafe there, and I had walking sitance to both the Office where I did business and to areas with many nice restaurants.

Gym was OK, with a threadmill, bike, stairclimber and a multi-purpose weight machine. Breakfast was also what you would expect.

Overall, I can recommend this hotel. It is not the cheapest, but still less expensive than the Sheraton, Hilton etc 100 meters down the street.

We spent 5 nights here and my experience was far from good. However, I will make sure this is a balanced review. I travel the world on business, but we were here on vacation this time. On the positives, the lobby is lovely; spacious, comfortable, relaxing. The bar is also very nice. They have big over-stuffed sofas and chairs with a beautiful wooden bar in the center. Great place to enjoy a cocktail or two - they have a very wide range of drinks available. The rooms are comfortable and very spacious; king bed, big desk, side chair & table. Bathrooms are almost as big as the bedrooms! The waiters in the bar were very friendly and attentive (maybe that's because we were there so much??). Breakfast was lovely. Tons of selections from cereals, breads, fruits, yoguart, crepes, meat, fish, cheese, etc. There was something for everyone! There were several companies in the hotel for meetings and you could tell this was more of a business hotel. On the not-so-positive side, as tourists, you often need help from the front desk. They were never really helpful; could not recommend dinner restaurants for us, didn't speak english all that well; would not give us more than one 15 minute voucher for the internet (!). We ended up feeling a bit frustrated by their unhelpfulness. There was no coffee or tea available in the rooms. They say they're air conditioned, but be careful to check first. They have a color-coded list of rooms where the A/C works and where it doesn't. They told us we had A/C but when it didn't work and we went back to the front desk to inquire, they pulled out their color coded sheet, found our room, saw the big red "no" on it and said to us, "oh yes, we know you don't have any air." If they knew that up front, they should have told us. Also, our room phone stopped working when we were there. We could hear people, but people couldn't hear us. When we told them about that, they said, "oh sorry". Never attempted to fix it. It was also very expensive for everything - more so than Paris where we stayed the previous week. Our "incidentals" were almost 250 euros for nothing more than water and wine from the hotel bar. If you're on business from a European country, I'm thinking this would be a nice place to stay. But if you're from outside of Europe or on vacation and will require a little more attention and help, you'll want to rethink your choice. We all agree that we will not be staying here again.

Room Tip: If you want A/C, make sure to double check that when you register.
