“amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Just returned from a fantastic six days at the X2 Brussels: a very smart, comfortable and stylish boutique bed & breakfast .
It was all we could have wished for and more.
Perfectly located on an ideal, yet peaceful street, Monique and Xavier are fantastic.
From the moment we walked in, they were very friendly and helpful.
They recommended some excellent tours, places and tips on how to enjoy Brussels and Bruges. As we love to check out local unique places, that usually are not common with tourists, they did a great job advising how to spend our time.
The rooms are beautifully, impeccably decorated with a lot of attention to detai.
Breakfast was a wonderful array of fruit, meats, bread and pastries, all delicious, and served with such courteousness.
We have travelled a lot and to many different places, but I have to say this is one of the memorable places.
X2 Brussels is a ten minute walk from central station, and once you find the place, it is not hard to find your way back the next time.
A hidden jewel at a reasonable price! We loved the place and definitely recommend it .

We only stayed one night at X2Brussels but we loved it. It's in a quiet residential area - only a short walk from the heart of the city but a world away from the tourist kitsch. It may not suit everyone, but if you want a small taste of what it might be like to actualy live in the 'real' city then this is a great compromise. Our room was on the second floor (note that there's no lift) and was huge, light and airy with two massive windows to the front and views over the rooftops. The room was stylish but cosy with it, and we now have serious bathroom envy - beatifully designed, simple and functional and I loved being able to shower whilst looking out at the rooftops (though there is a blind if you want it!). Fabulously comfortable bed and a street that's quiet enough at night that you can have the windows open - not always possible in central Brussels. Breakfast was extensive, tasty and healthy with eggs cooked to taste, lots of different breads and preserves, juice and endless good coffee - all eaten at a long white table in a chic yet homely kitchen/diner. A warm and thoughtful welcome and a comfortable and stylish stay, all at a very reasonable price.

Gorgeous room, extremely well designed, mosaic, chandelier, etc. Huge tub, thick towels...fabulous breakfast, one of the best anywhere. Staff, including weekend staff, kind, friendly, accommodating-- if you know Locanda Orseolo in Venice then you know the kind of staff here. I am delighted to recommend X2brussels.

If you come by train, insist the cabbie take you to the hotel or find another--ours said it is"2 minutes that way" -- not true, and we ended up with some trouble. If you do walk, follow the website directions not the taxi driver's.

Room Tip: All rooms looked splendid!

Many thanks for this review, we are glad to hear that you had a pleasant stay at our place and now we know where to go next time we visit Venice. :-)

The South Station (Gare du Midi) and its neighbourhood indeed attracts unfortunately some pickpockets targeting tourists, so it's strongly advised to be careful and take the recommended itinerary or stop at Central Station located more in the heart of the city. The B&B is at the same distance from both stations.

Looking forward to seeing you again. Xavier

i had a lovely stay at x2brussels for 3 days in august. i went on a solo trip to belgium, mainly to eat/drink and wander around. i had found this guesthouse on trip advisor, and it all sounded pretty great. it definitely lived up to my expectations but i don't think it is necessarily for everyone.

first - location is great. it's only about 3 short blocks away from the manneken pis in a quiet residential neighborhood. someone in an earlier post said that the location seemed kind of sketchy but i did not think this whatsoever. it's obviously quite easy to walk to the manneken and from there the grand place and main shopping areas. it's also easy to walk to/from the central station (maybe 10-15 minutes at the most) and also to the upper town where the museums are. location cannot be beat. i never used public transportation while in brussels.

second - room was huge. there are 3 rooms total and they are all apparently around the same size. the decorations were very elegant and simple and modern. the bathroom (along with huge bathtub) was very spacious. there is free fast wifi, a flat screen tv with english speaking channels, and bottled water in your room. i think maybe the only nice addition would be a small refrigerator and corkscrew/bottle opener so you could bring home some bottled beer and have it at night while hanging out in the bathtub. i never did ask xavier whether i could use the kitchen for that purpose, though.

third - breakfast is generous. now i had just stayed in a lovely guesthouse in bruges with an enormous breakfast spread. this one was definitely not as huge but i don't think you would come away hungry. lots of bread/pastries, homemade pain perdu, coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice, ham, cheese, eggs to order if you wanted them. i think having more options would be nice because it would get a little boring after a couple of days but it was very nice.

fourth - although you don't get to see xavier/monique too often (they do not live there, there is no front desk, and there don't hang out there during the day), they do provide very personalized service. right when i got there, monique grabbed a brussels map and marked several attractions/restaurants, and every morning xavier would more than happily give more recommendations as well.

i am a really independent traveler and x2brussels was perfect for me. beware that there is no front desk and that the guesthouse owners aren't there 24/7 though. it feels more like an apartment than guesthouse (although once again, might be better if there was a small fridge somewhere) and for that reason, it may not be the perfect place for everyone. i would certainly stay there again and recommend it highly for travelers wanting privacy out of the main tourist areas, people wanting a quiet getaway, and independent travelers.

Dear Lisa,

Many THX for your extensive review. I guess that a number of TA visitors must follow your good advice! It was a real pleasure to have you as a guest and we hope you enjoy Belgian typical food and drinks.

We will definitely take up your suggestion to diversify breakfast for people staying longer.

Although you had the impression my mother and I don't live at the B&B, we actually do. Of course we have also our own lives taking us out of the house, with for instance a full-time job for me (and a demanding gf ;-)). Indeed there is no front desk but this is the way we wanted it to be, striving to reach the right balance between availability and intimacy for everybody.

It's a pity you didn't leave your beer in our fridge which is also available for guests; you'll definitely need to come back for a different B&B experience (Bath and Beer), ;-)

All the best, Xavier

This place has the WAOW factor. My partner was flabbergasted!! I did my best to organize a little romantic trip in Belgium. The X2 Brussels exceeded my expectations. The room is LLLLLLLLLarge, trendy and cosy. The B&B is center located in a quiet street yet just a few minutes on foot from the Grand Place and Maneke Pis. You will not go hungry with plenty of bars, eateries and restaurants in the vicinity.
Like mentioned in many reviews on Tripadvisors Xavier and his mum are gracious hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. They bend over backwards to please their guests. I have traveled all over the world and I have rarely seen such a high level of customer service even in 4 and 5 star hotels! Thumbs up for the incredible team. :-)

The breakfast also lived up to the quality of the accommodation. It was abundant and delicious with French toasts, excellent bread, quality Jam, honey, ham, cheese,.. Brilliant. It is great value for money. It strongly recommend the X2 B&B. If I come back to Brussels I will surely stay there again.

My husband and I just returned from beautiful Brussels!! One of the highlights of our trip was finding this wonderful B&B! Xavier welcomed us into his home and the first thing he did was to sit us down with a map. He literally helped us plan our three day stay from start to finish! He recommended sights to see and wonderful restaurants for our dinners! We took all of his suggestions and we were not disappointed. He showed us several available rooms in the house and we decided to take the one on the top floor. We felt like we were on top of the world. The room was very large and it was very tastefully decorated!! The bed was so comfortable! We even had a flat screen TV and free WiFi. Breakfast was wonderful and so were our conversations with Xavier! I can't say enough about our excellent experience at X2Brussels!!

Room Tip: If you have trouble climbing stairs request the first floor!

We stayed one night, arriving at the end of a very hot day after waiting in 31C heat for a tram, sweltering in the tram, and making the short walk to X2. Imagine our despair to hear that we had the top floor room. It's a tall building. We didn't expect a lift. I think the stairs got steeper as we got higher. The room was very warm, but we cranked up the Dyson fan, cooled off in the excellent shower, and decided that we might live after all. Later we were able to open the windows and move some air, until the evening rain came.

We slept as well as can be expected in the warmth. The bed was very good, the room spacious, the bathroom facilities excellent.

We had a mid-morning flight, and Xavier had advised me by email that we ought to leave earlier than we had planned. That put us ahead of the normal weekend breakfast time, but Xavier said we'd work something out. We went down early for breakfast, and there were all the other guests too. We had a good Scandinavian-style breakfast as described in other posts.

It was raining and we didn't want to do the tram thing, so Xavier called a cab for us, and went out to make sure the driver had clear instructions.

We recommend X2 unless you have a problem with stairs. But if you do, why are you even looking at B&Bs in Europe?

Bonus: restaurant Houtsiplou is just around the corner. Steak frites and Belgian beer at an outdoor table (my wife had moules frites, which came with three dozen mussels). We even stayed outside during the brief thunderstorm. See the reviews here on TA.

Room Tip: The top-floor room is very nice, but ask for a lower floor if you want to avoid a climb.
