“Guy.. best hotel host ever!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2012

Like many other reviewers, we arrived to Les Ecrins and were upgraded, free of charge, from a regular double room, to a HUGE 1 bedroom suite with a private patio. If a better room is available, Guy will give it to you. What a concept!! He does it right over there in Brussels. I would stay here again and again and again. The value is unbeatable, almost in ALL of Europe.
Not to mention the breakfast was incredible. He goes out each morning to get the freshest of stuff to feed you and actually waits on you too. Instead of a buffet style. Its so charming and welcoming. I wished I would have had longer to spend here.
Also, very very easy to find and close to a couple metro stops. Brussels is small enough to walk to everything, we did!!
Thank you GUY!!!!!!!

We booked Les Ecrins because of the many good reviews on TripAdvisor, especially in terms of service. Based on our experience, I can only recommend the single economy rooms. At 65 euros per night with bathroom and including breakfast, they are a very good deal for Brussels. However, for 85 (standard single) or 95 (standard double) euros per night, you’ll get a better deal elsewhere in an equally central location.
My low rating is due to a most unpleasant experience with a member of staff, and the poor condition and availability of the linen.

Service
One of our group couldn’t get the door of his room open one night. He rang the number given on his electronic card and was told by the manager that he would come over. He never arrived. It took my friend 45 minutes to get into his room. When approached the next morning, the manager brushed it off. No apology. When challenged, he got angry and behaved as if it was perfectly acceptable to leave a guest to sort out the problem himself. He eventually uttered the word “sorry”, and on the day we left he got us a taxi, but it was too little, too late. I’ve had better service in youth hostels.

Linen
The duvets were fine but the sheets, while clean, were torn in places and see-through thin. The once-white towels were clean but grey and many of them were frayed. Not life-threatening but unappealing and surely easily remedied. The double room was only supplied with 1 hand towel per person. It took several attempts to get more.

General
Some of the rooms are in the house next to the main house. You have to ring the intercom to get in for breakfast. When it doesn’t work, you wait on the street and hope someone comes along. Maybe they should issue keys. There was a bad odour in the hallways, but not in the rooms. I suspect this has to do with the age of the plumbing, rather than any cleanliness issue.

We were so sure we were going to enjoy staying at Les Ecrins but in the end it was a disappointment.

My two friends and I (college age) just got back from traveling three months in Europe. Tight budget but we didn’t want hostels. This was on a pretty white washed alley with cobblestones and a five-ten minute walk from the Grand Place....pretty nice part of town, and at the end of the alley is a huge and beautiful church. Rooms were tiny (for our room we walked into the bathroom first which was strange and then into our double).....breakfast was seriously just different types of bread, but no complaining here!

We had no idea when we booked how close it was to the fabulous Christmas market! 1/2 block away! That was the icing on the cake. We really enjoyed our stay. Lovely comfortable room, great breakfasts and a very entertaining proprietor, Eddie. We stayed for 3 nights and really did not want to leave. It's in a great neighborhood near many restaurants and within walking distance of La Grande Place, museums, etc. Definitely would love to go back, especially at Christmastime. Did I mention the large skating rink and Ferris wheel?

Les Ecrins is a great choice if you are looking for a relaxed, familiar, quite, clean and central place in Brussels. It´s near St Cathrine place, one of my favourite areas in Brussels. It´s a very good value for your money if you don´t prefer a fancy place. I will certainly come back!

Each destination has its own hidden gem, for Brussels this is the one. Very friendly staff who accommodate ALL our needs. Our apartment was clean with full kitchen, comfy beds and of decent size compared to European standards. It was located in the 5th floor and unfortunately there is no elevator in the building, so for those with limited physical ability plan accordingly. The location is great especially for the price we paid for, you can walk to "la grande place" in 5-10 minutes. Actually you can discover all downtown on foot. Most of the negative reviews below are not true; yes indeed you need to provide your CC number to book and you will receive a confirmation email later, I don't know what's wrong with that. But when it comes to the towels, yes that's true, they were all worn out and need to be replaced. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Brussels.

Room Tip: If traveling with friends, get an apartment. You will have a kitchen and will save a lot on food; re...

I think this is a really nice hotel for what we pay. It's clean, the breakfast is good and and so Brussels. The men at the office are quite funny even though we woke them many times when we came back of the club...

Really, it was a good place!

Room Tip: No elevator, it's a good thing to know! BUT the last room at the last floor on the right has A/C...
