“Okay place to stay, several specific drawbacks, excellent staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

This hotel is located in conveniently in the center of town and within walking distance of everything you could want in Mechelen.
The staff if very courteous and helpful, and overall things are OK.

The Good:
Breakfast is straight and to the point. Eggs and Bacon, a little bit of everything, gets the job done.
The room has new TV's which support usb drives to watch movies from.
The Wifi has good coverage.
The Shower is roomy
The Bed is very comfortable compared to standard stuff in hotels.

The Bad:
Room is small. Really small. I usually do morning stretches and here it was impossible.
The toilet seat is close to the wall and the toilet paper dispenser in a way that prevents you from spreading your legs.
The hot water was warm at best
The Wifi costs extra, and is limited to a single device (it would log out my phone when i logged in my laptop).
Only 1 power outlet near the bed.
Bathroom window view to a dirty Alley.

Overall, its OK, its about the same level as 3 Paardekans (same owner), but cannot compete with high quality places like Novotel\DeBron.

Nice refurbished and clean 17th century hotel at very moderate prices, close to underground (expensive) parking at the bottom of the St Romboutstower (must see).
Beware of the tower bells for the light sleepers. Rooms are hot and open windows atract mosquitos.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are quieter than front rooms, but front rooms have a better sight of the St Romboustowe...

Located next door to the towering Mechelen Cathedral this hotel looks as though it was built a hundred years ago - which it probably was. However the proximity to the Cathedral means that light sleepers located on the front of the hotel will be woken on the hour by the clock chiming. Traffic on the cobbled road outside also creates 24 hour noise. And as if that wasn't enough the bin men come round at 6:45 on Tuesday morning to ensure you get a wake up call. Breakfast is typically 'continental' although the coffee is out of a machine and is nothing to write home about. The underground car park is just over the road and very convenient. Overall a reasonable place but I'm sure there are better hotels in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear of the hotel unless you sleep like the dead or are comfortable wearing ea...

I've stayed in this hotel a few times on business. The rooms are clean but basic as is the breakfast room. Breakfast is lacking in choice and the coffee is variable. I would not avoid but certainly would not be rushing back.

Ok the double bed was very small but the view at the square was good. The huge rectangular window was great.I liked the breakfast. The hotel is next to the cathedral. Although it is old (it needs immediately refurbishing except the bathroom which was recently renovated) it has class. It brings you to old times...

Room Tip: Square view

I stayed at this hotel in October. Amzingly mosquitos were still active and I could see some of them in my room either alive or dead (part of the wall decoration). I also did not enjoy the worn out signs on walls.
Otherwise the location is great and the personnel is friendly and helpful. I think some few changes would make this hotel way more attractive.

Organized an offsite for 28 colleagues in May 2012. Very nice experience, good contact with the manager (Karin) who was very helpfull. We used the whole hotel, so we could have a party until 2am. Nice patio. Rooms were very clean, as were the bathroom. Breakfast was OK.
