“Excellent property, retaining old charm with professional service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

The Mechelen Ve is a beautifully restored property with plenty of nods to its history as a fish smoking warehouse. The rooms are comfortable, the bar and breakfast area were welcoming but for me the winning feature was the helpful nature of the staff.

Hannelore in particular was terrific. From providing restaurant recommendations and marking out a walking tour map of the city to offering to do chocolate shopping for me while I was at work, this is among the best personalized service I have encountered.

If you can afford the price tag, this is a great place to stay at :-)

Used to be family-owned and joined the Mercure chain without loosing its character. Decoration is fine, rooms are large and well furnished. Only downside: as it is an old fish smoking plant, corridors and stairs are very cold in the wintertime !

Room Tip: There are 2 sizes of rooms. Prices vary in function of size indeed !

This is a modern hotel located at the Vismarkt in the centre of Mechelen. There is a very nice terrace outside the hotel which was fully occupied during the Friday and Saturday afternoon we were there. Mechelen has a good 'student' atmosphere with lots of restaurants and bars around the city.
People at the hotel reception were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.

Very central, need to follow the instructions to their secure parking due to the roadworks, one-way system & pededtrian area.
Right in the canal side bars & bistro restaurants.
Good breakfast & helpful staff who speak English, French 7 German as well as Flemish.
Air Con helpful in bedroom & stunning conversion from fish smoking warehouse to modern hotel

Dear family

thank you very much for your review. It's good hearing that you found our hotel. Indeed we are in the middle of town city centre and so in a pedestrian only area. as from this week we have a very handy road description to an underground parking, which is situated at 50 meters from our hotel. we 've put the description in all our mails, so everybody can find our hotel easilyby car and still enjoy the car-free centre of Mechelen

Hotel Ve in Mechelen Belgium is quite a gem. There are many things I like about this hotel including the rooms, the food, the staff, the location and the overall welcome feeling they provide.

I was in room 119 which overlooks the Fish Market. There is a collection of nice restaurants and cafe's to dine at and enjoy the good summer Belgium weather. I ate at many of them and they all provide great cuisine. The best restaurant is a small family run place that is around the corner. I forget the name, but if you exit the hotel, turn right down the small alley/street just past Fanterlok, walk a bit and it's the first left at the end - there is a small garden on your right as you wan down the one lane street to the end. Great people.

The beds are very comfortable, some of the best I have slept in while in EU. Other amenities nearby are the grocery store across the canal, the breakfast is nice and the rooms are all non-smoking. I fell ill and the staff was quite accommodating, helping me find a pharmacy and providing me some easily digestible snack items. One thing to be aware of, if you are in a room facing the market, it can get quite loud if you have the windows open. If you like absolute quiet, get a room off to the side or internally, otherwise you'll be fine.

Overall this was an overly pleasant stay. I will definitely stay here again.
