My clients insisted that I stay here - Bet you've never slept in a church before" the said. I didn't think bringing up my misspent youth would have been the right thing. They have done an incredible job creating a stunning modern hotel without spoiling the beauty and spirit of the place. Quite the most comfortable bed I have slept in when travelling in months and a very pleasant buffet breakfast. Excellent shower and warm bathroom but a rather chilly bedroom. One niggle - I understand environmentally friendly lighting but I do want a decent bedside reading lamp. Please hoteliers, make it possible!

This converted church is an unique experience. I opted for one of deluxe rooms, in the roof and the room itself was stunning!
Just like the wonderful entrance & breakfast place!

The only negative point, the bathrooms need a renovation. They don't go together with the Medieval style of the hotel.

Service was top!

it was a suprise for me to sleep over there. I never tought i would sleep into a church ever. But it was fantastic. It's on the outside a church and inside they made a modern hotel.Once into your room, you still can see the colored windows from the former church. You also can have a very good breakfast in front of the former altar. It's not cheap but it's special. But if you book ask for a room into the church. And last but not least, the beds are excellent.

We booked there for the special atmosphere and unique location. Ones arrived, the first impression was waaauw! At the room too... But then hottub was bath with only one bubble stand -full force-, small towels, airco with the refrigirator before it, many things were missing what you normally expect for a 4-star hotel. 25€ for the parking. Expensive breakfast for what it was. Not so clean and missleading evacuation symbols. And again, carpet, carpet and carpet... to bad they restored the church in such a 'bad' way. Could be better....

Hotel built within a church with ver characteristic corners. A perfect breakfast is server in the former choir of the church. Rooms are very good en you are in walking distance of the historic centre of Mechelen, once the capital of the now Benelux.

Martin's Patershof is a hotel situated in a former church. With great taste the building has been transformed into a hotel. Details like the neo gothic windows are preserved and made part of the rooms. We stayed in one of the rooms situated above the choir with the room following the curved walls which gave it a special athmosphere.
The room wasvery comfortabel & spacious, excellent bed and a well equiped bathroom (bath is equiped with a spa function).
Breakfast takes place in the former choir, and there is enough to choose from.

The hotel is centrally located, only a few minutes walk from the center('Markt') and the cathedral, with enough nice restaurants within walking distance. Only one remark: no free wifi. In hotels of this class that should be complementary.

Room Tip: If you want to sleep in the church part of the hotel and want to enjoy the 'religious athmospher...

Rooms don't correspond to photos on website or booking page. Except for the suit, you will be robbed and stuffed into a plain vanilla overpriced standard room. Don't be fooled by some fancy coloured windows. This hotels is lying in it's advertising.

Stijn B, General Manager at Martin's Patershof, responded to this review, February 25, 2013
Dear PauloJSS_66,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review on TripAdvisor.

However, it's very strange if you experienced the room in this way. Our hotel is constructed in a former church & it is unique in the world!

We have 79 bedrooms in total. 56 of them are in the former church. Each room of these is different and in everyone of them you can discover an aspect of the church (for exemple: couloured glass windows and/or a piece of a pillar).

The 23 other bedrooms are in the monastery next to the church. These rooms have lots of daylight and furniture has been adapted to create the same feeling like when you entered the main building.

I know we cannot undo your experience about the hotel, however we do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back one day.

Yours Sincerely,
Stijn Beschuyt
