“Loved it..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

Stayed at this hotel, on business and sadly only it was for one night. The hotel in an old church refurbished with alot of thought, comfort and style.
My room was a double aspect with a stained glass window along one wall which was such a nice feature. The rooms are tastefully furnished and the bed was so comfortable. Only point to note that all drinks in the room including the hot ones from the coffee maker are extra.
The breakfast was buffet style and had plenty to suit all tastes.
It is within easy walking distance to the town square.
Having stayed in Mechelen many times before on business and pleasure I would definitely choose this hotel for the next trip.

First of all, I only live about 30 minutes from the hotel, but I decided to spoil my girlfriend with a weekend in this hotel, as an early Valentine's present.

The hotel itself is charming, yes it's true that the windows are a bit small and it's dark in general, but that's difficult to overcome as windows were small at the time this church was constructed and the extensive use of LED-lighting helps creating an atmosphere of piece and tranquility, but it does not improve the overall lighting. Well, can't have it all I would say. Or you like it or you don't. I love the setup. It's great to see old and new combined and put into use.

Because it 's February and still cold outside the walls also felt cold ( not isolated ) and we especially felt this inside our room. There must have been something wrong with the airco in our room. After we reported the problem, the very helpful staff brought over 2 heating devices which turned our room into a comfortable area in no time. Thanks for this.

The breakfast was "english" and very nice. Very nice selection of food.

The hotel places you in the centre of the city at walking distance of the St. Rombouts Cathedral... and I recommend a visit to it, especially the tower! 300 stairs bring you 97 meter above the ground and give you a very nice view over the city. Recommended!

I definately recommend this hotel to everyone! It also makes a buitifull setting for a wedding night if selecting the top-level rooms.

imagine an old church that has become a hotel!
fantastic decor, great rooms and affordable prices.
everything clean, breakfast fflw european hotel standards.
you must have been there sure for once!
only -point i experienced was 2 ladies at the reception not wearing name tags who where not very friendly and at checkout they forgot to ask the standard questions. maybe they had a bad day, but surely no reason to avoid this splendid hotel. (also visit martin's in Leuven)!

Room Tip: This is Flanders in Belgium, don't worry if they can help they will do.

I have stayed in this hotel quite a few times now during some business-related trips. Fantastic location that does not empty your bank account if you want to take a taxi to the airport/business park in Mechelen. The hotel itself was well suited for a business-related stay - the staff were very friendly and flexible, the internet quite speedy and wi-fi working well. Once I got a free upgrade which was a very nice perk. I have never been more satisfied with the room service and cleaning as I was in Patershof - fantastic job, and made it very pleasant to come back to my room after an intensive day of meetings.
Would recommend for everyone who is looking for a hotel to stay at during a business travel - it is not much more expensive than, say, a Novotel, but feels much cosier and elegant!

We stayed here for New year just gone and the one previous...I fall in love with this hotel everytime i see it...its the perfect balance of old and new. the first year we must have had an upgrade, but to be honest i prefered the smaller (still executive) room we had most recently. A stained glass window greets you as you walk into room 514, it is literally the length of the bedroom's outside wall. quite a dark room, but not too dark, still adds to ambience.
This is a very quiet hotel - even on New Years Eve, with the exception of some early hour fireworks, it was incredibly quiet.

the hotel doesnt offer a restaurant in the evenings, however they do provide local menus of takeaways, which they have happily ordered for us and put it on our bill on both visits. There are lots of restaurants in Mechelen - you would find it hard to chose, however on NYE and other bank holidays there arent very many places open, so a trip to nearby Brussels or Antwerp may be in order, or take advantage of the takeaways!

Mechelen is in the middle of Brussels and Antwerp - about 30 minutes from both so perfect for a quiet city break - also only 15 minutes from Fort Breendonk - if you're into WW2, this is for you - used as a concentration camp for 3,500 people and it is incredible. 7 euro each and you have free reign basically of the inside and out. from the torture chamber (i couldnt go in myself!) to the courtyard where the labour work was carried out to the bedrooms and washrooms! It is a haven of history around Mechelen - theres lots to do - even a toy museum and a great (from what i hear) Science museum - i am hoping to go next time!

while in Mechelen you should visit the Carolus Brewery - lovely beer and lots of varieties, or if you dont fancy a tour - try it's restaurant- Het Anker - lovely menu and great ambience.

I never tire of Mechelen's cobbold streets and endless shops to browse in....if you're looking for classic history with a modern twist - you need to take a visit! I would suggest going for New Year - they put on a night of live music at the Grote Markt, where almost the whole city count down to midnight together, followed by a fireworks display over St Rumbolds Tower..it is absoutley beautiful. Take a tip and go along with your bottle of bubbles and soak in the atmosphere!

Room Tip: I really don't think you can go wrong with any room at Patershof - maybe just request a room in...

This hotel actually brought us to the little town of Mechelen. A wonderful window into life in Belgium.

Our room was breathtaking. We were on the third floor. Plenty of space in the room. And after a red eye flight, the very heavy curtains gave us a wonderful night sleep even with all the windows. They did a wonderful job remodeling the place into a hotel. There is a cute bar near the lobby. And the breakfast area (with good choices) was beautiful at the alter. We went at Christmas time and there was a beautiful tree there as well. The staff was all very friendly and helpful.

The town was really fun too. We went to the Het Anker brewery for lunch. We tried the local "cuckoo" ("koekoek") filet - tasted like chicken. And of course all the Carolus brews. We climbed ST. Rumbolds Tower, all 500 steps. And the town was decorated beautifully.

The location was great. It was off the main roads, but we walked everywhere.

This hotel is a former church, making this my most unique hotel experience. Windows are the original stained glass and the walls are the church walls, arches and all. We reserved the "great room" but were upgraded to the "best of home" room, which was a nice perk. The furniture and decor of the room was modern with a romantic edge. Bathroom, linens, etc. were clean. Breakfast was just okay, but did include hot and cold items. Staff were polite. Note: The entry level rooms do not feature the stained glass, but it is well worth the money to book a room that does.

Room Tip: Choose a room with stained glass
