My partner and I found Aaawa on the website, and fell in love with the pictures and description. The location is superb, the home is lovely (with a fantastic rooftop terrace) and the rooms are spacious.
The hosts, Rick and Irene, seemed very gracious upon our arrival. They offered to do our laundry, provided scrumptious breakfasts, and even lent us their CDs and recommended great restaurants in the town. Indeed, they were very helpful and hospitable.
However, the stay was not as idyllic as we had initially thought. They were insistent that we do not miss or wake up late for breakfast. Out of respect, we were up by 8.30 am regardless of how late we were out. It was a bit stressful. Also, normal hotel/guest house policy is that you check out by noon. Irene walked into our room without permission and began cleaning our floors by 10am! They said that they had to leave town, and didn't even give my partner and I time to take a shower before checking out!
We were rushed out of there - it was such a brutal ending to our stay! It also turns out that good friends of ours that were staying with them (upon our initial recommendation) and were driven out by Irene for missing breakfast!! The doors had no locks, there was absolutely no privacy in the place. It felt like we were staying with our in-laws! Very sweet couple, but as guests it felt as if we were intruding into their home and personal space.
I hate to give a bad recommendation for this place, as it can be quite lovely. But for us, it was much too stressful of a stay during a holiday. You'll have a wonderful stay in this place, as long as they do not have crazy mood swings or privacy is not a crucial issue for you.
