“A city palace filled with great art”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

The collector Fritz Mayer van den Bergh managed to build a fantastic collection of art and antiques before he died at the sad young age of 43. The house itself is glorious, wonderful tapestries in the staircase, lots of interesting old artworks, and the best of all: A room full of works by the Brueghels and some by Hieronymus Bosch. The most famous is the disturbing and hallucinating "Dulle Griet" This is one of the "great small museums" that abounds in European cities, absolutely worth the visit and then some.

“Stunning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

The museum displays the personal collection of a discriminating art lover and connoisseur, and almost every piece is of outstanding quality. The collection is well organised and beautifully displayed. It is one of the most perfect art museums in Belgium, and it is worth going to Antwerp just to visit this museum. I wish I had had more time to do it justice, although I spent more than a morning there. If you have any interest in art at all, don't miss it.

“Miss this at your peril.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

We love the art of the low countries and medieval art generally. If you do too, then do not miss this museum under any circumstances if you are in Antwerp (and if you are not in Antwerp but nearby then take a detour, you won't regret it). Mr Mayer van den Bergh was a collector par excellence and my jaw dropped at the sheer quality of the collection. The Brueghel family, Bosch and more jostle for your attention. Price of place must surely go to Dulle Griet by Brueghel the elder, though every room will capture your attention with something unique. I guess everyone who visits Antwerp goes to Rubens' house (and rightly so too). But don't miss this one - it is five minutes walk from Rubens' places, but artistically so different.

Perfect!
