“average - avoid breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2006

Great location. The hotel itself is charmless, you could be in any other hotels in the world. the rooms are larged and ours had been recently redecorated (basically, new wallpaper and furniture, everything was neutral and very standard).

Avoid breakfast - very low quality products at a luxury price. A total shame.

The Hilton is an imposing building, in exactly the right part of town. You willnot get a better location, and that is reflected in the prices.
The rooms are as described elsewhere - massive bed, really nice bathroom, power shower, all the usual comps - no robes. Furniture was tatty, and the corridors feel shabby, but generally you feel you are in a reasonable hotel. Mini bar prices are extortionate as always, but a smooth trick is to put out a tub of pringles and a bottle of water on a tray. As soon as you pick it up it charges to your bill.
Breakfast was NOT included in the price, and the supplement was too much for us to try it - 25 euros a head is very steep when the hotel is surrounded by cafes who will give you an excellent breakfast for 5 euros.
Bar prices are off the scale - spirits run at 8 euros plus a shot, cokes at 5 euros. More than double any bar in town, and there must be 20 in a five minute walk, all of which will have more character and atmosphere.
Parking is adjoining the hotel, and this again will cost you - 15 euros a day.
The staff were generally good, engaging and helpful (thanks to the concierge who helped us find an all night chemist), but the clientele are the usual bunch of Hilton pseudo posh, which is a shame in what could be a lovely tourist hotel, as there is a business atmosphere to the lobby and bar with all of the laptops and cellphone chat.
I`ve stayed in Antwerp maybe a dozen times but never before the Hilton. I would repeat the experience, mainly because of comfort and location, but be warned - there are much cheaper fun alternatives in town.

I stayed here for 2 nights during a vacation in Belgium. You can't find a better location! It is a very short walk to the cathedral, the town hall and dozens of great cafes and restaurants. The central train station and diamond district are just 2 stops away on the #2 or #15 subway (the station is below the square directly in front of the hotel) and the Fine Arts museum is also a long walk or short ride on the #8 tram.

The hotel room itself was the largest that I stayed in on the trip. It was clean and comfortable, but with all the great things to see nearby you won't spend much time there. I've read some reviews that complained about the cost of extra things at the hotel. There is an indoor shopping mall right next door (connected to the hotel), with a GB grocery store on the lower level where you can stock up on anything you need. There is also a coffee shop right across the street for breakfast.

The locaion makes this a very convenient place for sightseeing and I would stay here again.

  • Liked — Close to all the highlights of the city
  • Disliked — The shower was a little small (but it did have a tub as well)
  • Tips/Secrets — Check out the Austrailian Ice Cream shop across the street - yummy!

I stayed here for four nights. The rooms were clean and comfortable. However, the furniture in the rooms, the decor and and the hallway rugs could use and updating. Be aware that they do allow small pets. I had a problem with the phones that they did not resolve while I here though they did reduce the phone charges which I was happy with. I also only had one sheet; something that they addressed relatively quickly. It was very quiet in the room; no problems with neighbors, etc. The location is fabuous. It is within walking distance to many locations I was interested in including the Peter Ball Reubens Huis, Printer Museum and the Churches. It is also in the heart of the shopping and restaurant /cafe area. All in all this hotel is a safe bet and I would return here again.

I stayed at the Antwerpen Hilton for three nights the end of June, 2006 on the end of a 4 week long vacation/business trip. I was able to score an excellent deal of 129 EURO/night on the hotel's website although at the cost of cancellation policy.

By far the best aspect of the hotel is its location in the heart of town. And a charming town it is, given the historic nature of the city centre and the friendliness of its Flemish-speaking residents.

The hotel itself was decidely upscale with several boutique shops off of the lobby carrying the likes of Armani and Gucci. My standard room was spacious and well-maintained; not five star but certainly a cut above what some of the negative reviews would have you believe.

The mini-bar is indeed rigged with sensors but this is standard at many Hilton's. However, there was sufficient space on top of fridge for drinks and snacks and I had no problems with the sensors. However, if you do happen to go rooting around, just ensure that you verify that the front desk remove the cost from your final bill.

One negative of the stay was the cost of wireless, a staggering 20 Euro/day, a service which is standard in most comparable hotels. Having international dial-up capacity on my computer, I opted to dial in to the local number to download my e-mails. Unfortunately, I kept getting bumped off after approximately one minute. Low and behold, I noticed I was dinged 1 EURO for each of the four times I dialed in.

All in all, a decidely upscale hotel in the most desireable location in the city. Although perhaps lacking the charm of smaller boutique hotels, this is not particularly suprising given that Hilton's tend to win their patrons by pampering rather than by charm.

One final comment. As the centre of the EU, Brussel's (and seemingly by extension, Antwerp's) hotel prices drop from staggering 300-400 Euro to 100-150EURO for 4 and 5 star digs on Friday and Saturday evening.

I staid in the Antwerp Hilton for 5 nights and one thing you can say immediately about the hotel is that the location is great. Everything is in walking distance (cathedral two minutes if you are a slow walker; nice bars and restaurants the same). The hotel itsself has the typical Hilton charme, meaning you wake up in the morning and wonder where you are. It is a nice hotel, depending on your expectations. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean. The staff (lots of trainees) is very polite and helpful.
Parking: Parking for more than 10 hours is 15 Euro. There is no special hotel rate that you could get.

Overall : Good hotel, great location.

Again I was somewhat apprehensive about staying at the Hilton in Antwerp after the reviews but am now extremely glad we did so- maybe we got a better room but I had no problems with the decor or anything about the room- one of the best beds we slept in on this trip to Europe and big spacious room. No real view except of the clock tower but quite and dark- unlike some other places at night in the room
Location cannot be faulted for Antwerp- right in the centre so an easy stroll to anywhere and close to the tram lines so easy access to from the train station- we had caught a train from Brussels Antwerp was a beautiful city to visit and the hotel was excellent. Good bathroom and nice toiletries available
The room was a bit of a hike from the lift - but not a real problem.
Breakfast was good and reasonable valu nice position looking out onto one of the squares.
We booked over the Hilton site and I thought that the price we paid for a good 5 star hotel was more than reasonable- even when converted to $AUD
Only grievance- the stupid fridge- don't like the idea of the sensor recording whta is taken moved- not much space left for storage of things- could be a problem if people had medications that needed to be kept cold- obviously I moved something at some stage but they did ask and it wasn't a problem to have it taken off.
If I was going back to Antwerp i would stay here again without a second thought
