“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

Antwerp is a beautiful city and the Hilton is perfectly located to easily suite every travelers tastes. Walking in one direction led to more independent shops and restaurants, the other direction had big name chains. It's an easy walk to the water and attractions.

The executive lounge was nice and really quiet during our visits.

The room was large, clean and comfortable.

Our only complaint was the breakfast service. We avoided the executive lounge for breakfast because of a preference for the larger restaurant atmosphere. The staff wasn't as friendly as other areas of the hotel and I couldn't wait to leave the restaurant. The food selection was not really good. It was also disappointing that the eggs smelled awful and tasted worst.

Dear TripReviewer88,

Thank you very much for your very positive review of our hotel that you have shared with fellow travellers here on Trip Advisor.

I was only dissappointed to read about your breakfast experience and I am very sorry for that. Your comments have been shared with the team in Food and Beverage, and their department head will look into this to ensure this experience will not happen again.

Thank you again for your very kind and positive review.

We stayed at the Hilton Antwerp Hotel at the end of March. This was a quick overnight get away to see a new city and stay in a central location. Customer service was clearly paramount at the Hilton. Before our arrival, we received an email from the manager welcoming us and informing us of events going on in the city. I wrote back and asked how to get to the hotel from the train station and received a prompt reply. Upon arriving, as I am a gold level Hilton club member, we were upgraded to a suite. Inside the spacious room there was a letter welcoming us, chocolates and a large bottle of water. That evening upon returning from our adventures there was a beautiful plate of desserts waiting for us. We also had use of the executive lounge which was fully stocked with soft drinks and alcohol and had nibbles available. The hotel also has free wi-fi.

The location is extremely central and I cannot imagine staying anywhere else in Antwerp after this very highly enjoyable customer service oriented hotel experience. All staff were friendly and check-in and check-out was simple.

As a side note, we ate at an amazing restaurant while in town. The chef, who came out to tables to greet guests and talk about the menu, is very personable and gifted. De Godevaart provides foodies with an incredible dining experience. It is a fancy restaurant and would be a perfect for a romantic date between two food lovers!

Very comfortable hotel, nice large bright rooms, well appointed. Reception staff very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast buffet, average, not a huge selection of hot food. Terrace Cafe expensive and food less than average for the price - still water €9/bottle. The Italian restaurant across the way is better food and better value. Hotel is brilliantly located for walking to most of the places of interest, so great for a weekend break.

Dear Jilljilani,

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments about our hotel with fellow travellers here on Trip Advisor.

I was happy to see that your did rate us quite highly and of course enjoyed our unbeatable location. You did mention our Breakfast as not having enough hot food items which I found quite surprising as we normally have very positive comments about our breakfast, in particular about the vast offerings. You also mentioned that our Terrace Cafe was expensive compared to 'the Italian across the way.' Undoubtedly the Italian restaurant across the square is lower in price than our restaurant as they are a pizzeria. Our Terrace Cafe is a full service Belgian brasserie serving classically prepared Belgian and French dishes, so difficult to compare on a price basis with a simple pizzeria (although I must say, their pizzas are excellent and I likewise would recommend them).

Thanks again for your comments, and we hope to welcome you back again someday soon.

The receptionist was very helpful and welcoming. The room was cosy, modern and well furnished. I was on the executive floor and the lounge was good - what a Hilton lounge should be, but too few are these days: comfortable, welcoming and with a good selection of snacks. There is an open air area across from the lounge which is can be used by lounge members but as it was snowing outside (in March!), I resisted...

What really stood out was the very friendly and competent service throughout the hotel and the excellent location right in the heart of Antwerpen and so close to shops, restaurants and the well-maintained historic squares that seem so much less crowded and more enjoyable than Brussels' Grande Place.

Room Tip: If arriving by train, the 12 tram from outside the station takes you to the next street (Melkmarkt s...

Overall excellent experience at this hotel - fantastic location for exploring Antwerp and so many restaurants and bars close by. Just head out and wander through the local winding streets - getting lost is half the fun of exploring an old European city.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

First of all: all members of staff we met were extremely nice, polite and helpful.
This justifies a 2 "star" rating for me, if not it would be 1 "star".
We had booked an alcove suite for the weekend. Of course the suite was nice, the price was quite high.
As regards price\quality, this hotel was for me below all standards. Breakfast was nice, but not outstanding. A few minus points (amongst others):
1) stairs cannot be used because they are under alarm. Staff can accompany you without any problem. Can you imagine calling reception to go down the stairs? I have never been to a "high" class hotel where stairs are "closed" for public.
2) the safe is at ground level! Impossible to use for older peope, you have to lie on the floor to put in code, to open and to close!
3) contrary to what is mentioned on the website, the windows do not open. We called reception, and somebody came to open the window-door although.
4) one piece of soap, so take it to and again out of the shower with you, if not there is no soap in the bathroom....
5) reading lights non existing, smell in room and corridors not too "neutral-fresh"...
Etc etc.
This hotel and the room could be so much nicer, its location is superb. A pity.

Dear joop1,

Thank you for your review. I would like to address the ponts you have raised as your score seems unfairly low in consideration of your comments.

Our hotel is in a historic building that surrounds an existing shopping mall. Unfortunately, this does not allow us to have a grand central staircase, and therefore all the stair cases we do have are fire evacuation stairs, as such, for those guests who do not like using elevators our team are always available to escort guests up and down the fire stairs, thereby avoiding inadvertently setting off the alarm.

It is true that in some or our rooms (in particular suites) the safes are at floor level as these are larger safes than in our regular rooms, and this location allows their placement. Our apologies if you found this inconvenient.

Our windows do open, so this is not contrary to our website, but just as in most major hotels, the windows will only be opened by Reception when mutually agreed with the guest for safety reasons. You requested them to be opened and your window was opened.

There is a whole array of Bathroom amenties placed in each guest room. Had you required more of any of the amenities, a simple call to Housekeeping would have resulted in as much soap as you desired being delivered to your room.

Obviously there are reading lights in the room, next to each side of the bed, at the Desk, next to the sofa, etc., so I am confused by this comment.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your comments, and I do hope to have addressed each of your points adequately.

Kind Regards
