“Unexpectedly Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

I've never been a fan of the new high-priced Holiday Inns. They usually lack amenities & just give a very poser impression. This hotel is different. The room was nice, the gym has free weights and some standard aerobic equipment, the pool is very dramatic & fun to swim in, there is both a steam room & sauna with a nice shower/changing room, the breakfast buffet is much nicer than you would expect, the wifi actually works well in your room, and the front desk is pretty customer service oriented. And customer service is in short supply in Europe, if you haven't noticed. You can even get a good deal on this hotel at Hotels.com. I saw as low as $85 USD.
It's not in the exact center of Antwerp but, since the Albanians were shooting each other a block from the hotel (3 hours after I walked by the location with my 2 year old son) the last time I stayed downtown I would prefer this somewhat suburban location. If you need to go downtown there is a bus station across the street from the Crown Plaza (#17) & it's a short ride to the central station. Starbucks will even take your US currency. Ha!

My only complaint: I didn't like the pillows. They're were these odd squarish things that just didn't work for me.

Somewhat disappointed in the value this hotel provides given the relatively high price in particular given the somewhat pedestrian location on the town outskirts and the fact that the rooms could definitely benefit from a refresh. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the (6am to 11pm) well equipped gym is bright and airy. The breakfast buffet is quite decent, but the hordes of guests made it overly congested.

This hotel should feel very proud of the level of customer service it offers. From the housekeeping staff to the General Manager, you are treated with courtesy, charm and a "can-do" attitude second to none.
I was staying for business but would happily recommend it as a hotel for pleasure as well.
The conference facilities are very functional and flexible and the swimming pool makes a great venue for a reception!
It was a real pleasure to stay there and I very much hope to go back.

Stayed for 1 night AT&T 80 euro's including breakfast. Rooms on third floor are small but the bed is comfortable.

Location is very convenient for travelers but do not expect a stroll into town. Select another place for the romantic getaway, pick this one for convenience and good rates.

By the way, the place has been renovated and looks nice and modern now.

Cool H

I have used this hotel on many occasions for conferences over the years and more recently last week, The self contained meeting space is on the ground floor and works very well. The hotel staff are very efficient, friendly and very flexible.
Free wifi through out hotel, the shuttle bus from Brussels airport stops right outside the front door of hotel and then continues into the centre of Antwerp. The hotel has a very quirky swimming pool. I would recommend this hotel for either business or pleasure.

this house is a classic example for a succesfully restored architectural crime from the 70ies. from the outside you expect the typical concrete bunker that was regarded "cool" some 40 years ago, but upon entering the lobby you'll know: this is refurbished, and nicely too. interesting artwork meets google map carpets and wallpapers, and while this sounds a bit weird on paper it actually works.

i must say i do like the chain, the crown plazas in this world usually served me well. this here is no exemption. super friendly reception staff checks you in, the rooms are tidy and spacious enough, the beds new and sport enough pillows to impress the princess on the pea, there's very stable and rather quick (free for a limited use) wifi, the bathroom is spotless and modern without being pretentious, and the water pressure of the shower is kicking. all the other amenities are where you expect them, from the ironing board in the dresser and a water kettle with free coffee and tea, to ample storage space everywhere.

the meeting rooms are overly complete and suit everything from small board meetings to slightly larger department conferences. they are lacking a business center, but there's personal printing service via email. but bring your own computer.

while the breakfast is perfectly fine, complete, fresh, nicely presented and stocked right up to the end time, the main restaurant could have a bit more of a choice. what they have on the menue is very good, but i found it somewhat limited in variety.

there's a little shop-like chiller next to reception where you can fill your minibar, and room service goes until quite late.

what made the stay utterly pleasant, however, was the thorough and genuine attention of the staff. friendly and caring, yet not trying to overserve you, is everyone delightful, from clenaing ladies to the general manager, who personally checked on my stay and made a very late checkout possible.

location isn't exactly close to all, but there's public transportation right in front of the main entrance and cabs standing by at all times. expect 10 euros cab fare to the main rail station, the bus is 2 euros and takes 15 minutes.

there's a very cool pool area, which can serve as a party space as well, and a spa area, but i haven't been there.

all in all, if i ever have to do business in antwerp again (which i hope, it's a nice town), this is the place for me to go.

Nothing wrong with this hotel at all. It is like walking into any Crown Plaza Hotel anywhere in the world. Standard features, services, rooms, etc. Everything clean and as you'd expect. This particular Crown Plaza has even had a bit of a makeover, and the reception lobby is adorned with lots of interesting local artwork, and tales of Antwerp's history.

Unfortunately the hotel is situated out of the City Centre (10 min taxi ride away). This in itself can't be helped and is no reason to give a poor review. The problem is, the hotel is nestled in between two very busy highways. As a result not one room evades the incessant traffic noise coming from these roads 24hrs per day.

My first night here was spent drinking a fair amount of wonderful Belgian beer. So when I got back to the hotel I crashed and went straight to sleep. 3hrs later I was woken as I gradually became conscious of the traffic noise coming from outside. Thinking it must be morning, I panicked somewhat and checked my alarm. It was 3am. I looked out of the rather thinly glazed window and saw an endless stream of traffic. I checked the windows to see if they'd been left open at all, but they were locked albeit somewhat loose and rattley.

I can't understand why this has never been taken into consideration by the hotel. Clearly the location and risk of sound pollution must have been known when they built the hotel?

Anyway, its not all bad. Just remember to take some earplugs, or drink approximately 5 more glasses of Kwak than I did which should see you through to 6am.
