“Swan lake antics”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2013

What was a delightful stay in this hotel was ruined by the antics of a bunch of idiots running around the fire escape at 2 o’clock in the morning. The hotel reception tells me it was a group of dancers from the UK who were appearing in Mathew Bourne’s Swan Lake at the Staadshouwburg Antwerpen. Nice to see they take their professionalism so seriously. Although the hotel said it would report the antics to the people responsible for hosting the dancers in the hotel there was no effort to offer any form of compensation for their lapse in security.

When first entering the hotel you can be mislead as it looks like most modern hotels - staff are fantastic and really nice - wifi is €5 per 2; hours per device -breakfast is ok nothing special - it is not until you get to the lift you realise that all is not as it might be it looks old - when you exit the lift you find the hotel was decorated in a 70s style or perhaps more likely in the 70s - the rooms are Huge a junior suit with only the bed in - bathrooms seem to have been re done in the last 10 years but again needs help the bath was installed for very short people - the rooms are warm and heated by radiators WORD of warning no air conditioning at all and in certain rooms on the 1st floor it is unsafe to open the large window as the top floor of a car park is out side - avoid like the plague in the warmer months

On the positive side, the location is great and parking convenient. The room is spacious and little to no noise from the outside. Plenty of English language channels on the TV. The hotel staff was extremely helpful and pleasant.

On the negative, our room had a wooden floor which was nice and probably easier to clean. I also suspect that the people above me also had wooden floors because we could hear their footsteps. I guess that is why hotels have carpets. Also, the breakfast buffet has a very limited selection compared to other European hotels I have stayed at. More comparable to a Holiday Inn. However, if you are in Belgium, you should go out and have fresh made waffles anyway.

Overall, the hotel

Stayed two nights here during a tour of Belgium in September,it was my second stay at this hotel and both stays have been very enjoyable.
The hotel has a great location with all the main attraction of Antwerp within walking distance,it also has great parking facilities which adjoin the hotel and have direct access to the lobby.
Our room was spacious, clean, well equipped and very quiet and comfortable.
Breakfast buffet was excellent and was always well stocked despite the hotel being very busy.
I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We stayed here for four nights and really enjoyed the hotel (and Antwerp generally). We had a room on the fifth floor at the front of the building for two nights and one on the fourth floor at the rear for the other two. We changed rooms because my wife, who is a very light sleeper, was woken up on a couple of occasions by street noise - mostly people talking outside the hotel and/or adjacent buildings. No such problems with the other room which overlooks a car park.

The rooms were large and spotlessly clean and the beds were comfortable. Of the two we preferred the room at the rear of the building, partly because it was quieter but also because it was lighter and had carpet as opposed to a laminated floor. However both rooms were very good. Breakfast was excellent and all of staff that we encountered were helpful and very friendly. There is a comfortable bar.

The hotel is very well located, a comfortable fifteen minutes walk from the historic centre of the city with its wealth of sights to see and places in which to eat and drink. The tram stops just at the end of the street and the large main markets take place on a Saturday and Sunday just around the corner from the hotel. There are also some decent restaurants nearby.

We liked this hotel very much and would definitely use it again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quieter. Those with carpet are more comfortable to walk around in.

I came to Antwerp (coming from the United States) on Business and found this hotel to be very cozy. The walls are thin but I was not disturbed by very much noise and the heating/cooling units are not “industrial” size although I was neither too hot or too cold. I came during a rainy and wet week in September and found the hotel to be very comforting. English is spoken everywhere and the staff was very courteous. The breakfasts were delightful and, although I did not eat any other meals at the hotel, the food I did have was very good. I did not find the hotel too expensive and it is within walking distance to many great shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: No pool and no fitness center although there is a gym within walking distance. You will have to coe...
