“Absolutely Charming B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

this fabulous bed and breakfast must be one of the most charming places i have ever stayed in. wait until you see the giant chandelier which hangs in the sitting room! i came to Antwerp on a trip with my mother who is 85 years old for the opening of the Red Star Line Museum! Georgette and Carl were wonderful hosts who made us feel welcome and warm in their charming historic home. we almost could not find it since it is marked only with a blue door! but once you open that door and walk inside the garden entrance begins to welcome you all on its own. you will not find this place listed in other sites because the rooms and bathrooms are so large and spacious, they don't qualify for certain listings. we had very soft and inviting linens in a large comfortable room with cozy down quilts with a sofa looking out toward the huge floor to ceiling windows that opened above a gorgeous garden. the bathroom is almost the same size as the bedroom with a Jacuzzi, 2 sinks and shower. it is so quiet right in the middle of the old city of Antwerp with everything just outside the door! At 85 and some limitations with mobility, the location was perfect because all the pubs, chocolate shops and restaurants are just steps away as is the gorgeous cathedral and city hall. the only sounds you hear are the church bells which toll constantly singing you a lovely song, ever so gently. breakfast was a delicious start to the day with fresh buttery croissants, the best grain breads, butter, jam, eggs, cheese, bacon , fresh squeezed juice and coffee. YUM! you have to be crazy to stay somewhere else. my only regret is that Georgette was renovating her kitchen so she was not cooking dinner, which i had heard on other reviews, was fabulous. if you want the same old thing, go to the Hilton. if you want a real inviting, warm Flemish experience, at an exceptional price and great comfort, this is the place for you! also, you should arrange a personal guide who will give you a tour of the old city you want ERNA BOONS who is a very delightful colorful character. you can find her at erna.boons@telenet.be.

This was probably our favorite B&B during our 12-day vacation that we wish we would have stayed longer than just one night. The room was super cozy and I loved the bathroom (had a great tub with jets to take a bath in). The house in a very old house which just makes it that much more beautiful.

Our hosts were super nice and very attentive, and breakfast was very good. Everything is walking distance and we felt very safe walking back to the B&B at night.

We did have a little bit of a hard time finding it with Google maps on my iPhone (plus there was a race going on so all roads in the area were closed off so we had to park further than we wanted to).

A very beautiful and old house, full of history in the center of Antwerp. From the guest house all major attractions (shopping, restaurants etc.) are within walking distance. The rooms are beautifully restored and very comfortable and big. The bathroom is very luxurious, but has an open connection to the room (at least in the room where we stayed) which could be seen as a small disadvantage by some.

The hotel / guest house is ran by a couple and they truly give you the feeling of a 'home away from home'. They are extremely friendly and helpful; the breakfast is great too.

If you are looking for a place to stay in the center of Antwerp, look no further!

We stayed for two nights and it was an absolute pleasure being hosted there. The luxurious room is contemporary classic and tempting. A contemporary hotel experience is added to a century old building. Our bathroom with plenty of space and big bath added to the romantic getaway we planned for. The breakfast was sumptuous.

The hotel is located right in the old centre of Antwerp, right next door to many cultural attractions and many good restaurants. The whole, experience makes one almost feel part of this rich culture without having to compromise on one's wishes for luxury.

Stayed only 1 night but very nice room and bathroom. Missed only a Nespresso and Tea making facility. They offer breakfast in a special room, should be ok. Not easy to find as you drive by the entrance door without seeing.

We really enjoyed staying here. I like the off the street entrance. Our room was beautiful, roomy and quiet. Bathroom was spacious.

We enjoyed the breakfast and the coffee was also very good. Another beautiful breakfast room. Also the same room where tea and dinner is served. Unfortunately we did not sign up for the dinner. But after returning one day we did see several people enjoying a beautifuly prepared meal and wine and conversations.

The hostess is very knowledgeable and a well trained cook. Should we stay in Antwerp again, we will avoid searching for restaurants and ask to have dinner at De Koning van Spanje instead.

Once again, beautiful accomodations that are not too far from the train station and main tourist areas. The price is more than reasonable.

Thank you!

Room Tip: any room is great. sign up for the dinner.

While traveling from Bruges to Amsterdam we stopped in Antwerp for one night to see the city and stayed at De Koning van Spanje. The street door to the bed and breakfast makes it look unwelcoming and impossibly small, since it is sandwiched between other buildings. Though once you enter the street door you walk into a cute little garden alley that leads to the house, that is actually set back from the street. We arrived a bit later than we had expected and were greeted by Georgette's son. He was very courteous (and strong because he easily carried our heavy suitcases up the stairs), and showed us quickly around the bed and breakfast even though he had somewhere else to be. The room we had was very spacious with a nice sitting area. The bathroom didn't have a door but it was around a corner in the room so you still had some privacy. There was a nice tub and a shower with many different nozzles, a variety of buttons, and a radio. I never really figured out what all the different buttons did though. The room was very quiet and our window looked out into their yard. We met Georgette in the morning, she was very talkative and friendly. We did not have breakfast here since it cost extra, instead we went out to a nearby cafe. The bed and breakfast is in a good location that is easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, the square and church. We did take a taxi to get to and from the train station. Overall this was a very nice clean and comfortable bed and breakfast.
