Hotel Mondo Eden Antwerp (formerly called Sandton Hotel) is just a stone's throw away from the Keyserlei, located between the Central Station and the Diamond Exchange near the Diamond Parking. It is situated at a dull and rather quiet street, about 300 mtrs. from the Meir shopping street (a place to avoid). The really nice shops are in the Meir’s neighbourhood. The hotel has its own parking, but you have to realize that parking in Antwerp is very expensive. The best is to go to a Park & Ride where you can park for free and take the tram to the city centre (eg. Metropolis; tram 6 brings you to Astrid Square, the Central Train station). With reference to public transport is the hotel perfectly situated. Be aware that entering the hotel it still bears its old name Sandton. The hotel has 66 rooms spread over 5 floors, and there are 2 elevators.
The desk is served by very kind staff always willing to help you. From the lobby you reach the breakfast room, where in the morning a warm/cold breakfast buffet is served with different kinds of bread, meat products, cereals, cheese, baked ham/eggs, yogurt, milk, coffee, tea, etc., all very fresh and of good quality. Coffee is not of a high standard. There is no restaurant for lunch or diner. One can buy some drinks in the lobby, but they are not cooled, so we did not.
Our room was on the second floor (214) at the rear. We asked for a quiet room and we got one. It is a room of normal size according to European standards with a large double bed (box-spring). The mattress is rather dour, but acceptable for a 3-nights stay. The room is rather basic: a working tabel, a small table at both sides of the bed, a flatscreen TV with about 10-12 channels and pay TV (even for Eurosport you have to pay). The most irritating is the lighting: there are 3 small lights and you can not read while lying in bed because the bedside lamps dip the light too much. There is no linen cupboard, only some wooden shelves. The room has a safe and there is a good working air-conditioner. The bathroom is rather small, looks very new and has a very good shower. The wall has no “safety grip” whereas the floor is a bit smoothy. There is only liquid soap. Room and bathroom are impeccable clean.
We stayed at the hotel in May 2011 for three nights. We booked through hotel specials and we got a 3=2 offer including breakfast. All in all very recommendable for a short stay.
