“A shocking experience - very disppointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

A relatively frequent visitor to Antwerp, and a former resident, I was looking for a good restaurant for me and my two teenage sons for dinner. I was attracted by the proximity to the hotel, and also by the menu, with a monthly menu looking appealing. Other reviews had been promising, so off we went. Booked via the website, which was successful. A lovely room, the restaurant promises well. The staff were a little surly, and were all outside smoking when we arrived, but we put this down to it being a hot day, and they were probably rather uncomfortable inside all the time.

My elder son and I ordered a Cote de l'Os, and my younger son the decadent burger, a burger with among other ingredients, foie gras. However, he didn't want the foie gras, so we asked for it without.

The Cote de l'Os came with salad and fries.

The cote de l'os was so tough it was almost inedible, and we asked for medium rare, so really no excuses. There was gristle all over it, and we struggled to eat it at all. The fries were indifferent to say the least, sad and soggy, and really not what you would expect in Antwerp.

The decadent burger without foie gras was tolerable, and came with an excellent sauce, the only acceptable part of the meal. Most staggering of all was the fact that we were charged full price for the burger, despite not having the most expensive element. There was not attempt to take this into account.

We were so disappointed. The meal that we were presented with was utterly unacceptable, and for the money was a disgrace.

So sorry to the people who have had a great experience, and perhaps we chose badly, but we just could not recommend this place under any circumstances. Sorry..

“Best 'meat'ing place in Antwerp!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

I went to the Peerdestal with 2 business contacts who are really meat lovers. I have been there already a couple of times and the restaurant is always TOP!

This time we had the Dry Aged meat, and I must say I have never had such a fine piece of meat. It was tender, with an xquisite taste. (we had the Belgian Blue).

Service was excellent. Very polite, efficient and helpful in our choice. I recommend you to make a reservation as (even during the week) the place is very popular (both with local people as with tourists).

“Nice ambience, tasty food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

I was surprised to get a table for four on a Saturday evening, as I booked only the night before. We had a nice table downstairs with a view out onto the cobbled streets. The staff was attentive, service a little slow but we had no train to catch! The pate was delicious and our guests had the scampi and raved about it. For main courses, we had the BBB - Belgian Blau steaks and they were cooked just right - the fish - sole, was also delicious. Sadly there was no room for a pudding. They have a good selection of wines and various menus to choose from - we will be back again. The patron was around and chatting to customers - obviously regulars - so that was also a good sign!

“Solid performance”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

A local guy recommended this restaurant and the horse meat in particular. We called for reservation... Fully booked... He called on our behalf and we got a table :o) So - if you're rejected, it might help to be a little pushy or show up in person or something.

Surprisingly the starter (EUR 18.5) cost almost the same as a 300 gram horse steak (EUR 23.5) - but both dishes were delicious and worth the price! We had a table at the upper floor - a good view of the restaurant, but it turned a little warm during the evening (until they opened the main door for fresh air). A popular restaurant worth visiting!

“Elegant, fine service, warm atmosphere...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

Last night of our stay in Antwerp, we entered this old style restaurant with horses hanging from ceiling and walls! pricy menu, we were attracted by the seasonal set menu, around 29eur. Seated at 9.30, without a reservation on a week day, place was full. we had only one dish each and a glass of wine. Asperges "a la hollandaise" was my choice. Very good food and atmosphere, too expensive for a full meal!
