“Nice and calming ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

Very nice park. Actually whole year round. Love the japanish garden in May/ June. Cute tea house in the park. With nice lunch. Funny detail: Big house there and nearby gravestones from 13 dogs a lady buried centuries ago. Dog lover :)

I go twice a year, May and October. It is gorgeous. Free entry. Best way to spend a sunny day in Holland.

“Clingendael”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

Nice walks in former stately home"clingendael,s" park.Although the small japanese garden is only open during late spring-early summer the rest of the estate is worth a visit.
During german occupation the estate was their seat of power and the historic house is now an institute for international relations.
The sandy soil is ideal for azaleas and rhododendrons and there are many monumental beeches(beuken in dutch)and some oak(eiken)as well.
A bike trip north to green and lush Wassenaar or cheerfull Scheveningen beach could make for a relaxing day out .

“It's nice, but not amazing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

The Japanese Garden is only open for a few weeks in the spring, and a few weeks in the fall. The rest of the year the staff probably delight in the fact that they don't have to be bothered by outsiders.

Just outside the park is a sign in Dutch. Apparently the sign says you can't bring a stroller inside (along with various other no-nos). If you don't speak Dutch, you will be yelled at in Dutch ignoring the sign. Not a big deal, but after you park your stroller outside the staff will continue to glare at you for the remainder of your visit.

The Japanese Garden is tiny and not as great as people say, plus many other Japanese Gardens around the world are open all year. My point is, don't be disappointed if you miss it.
