“Great luxury Hotel, excellent location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2011

Recently visited this property for two days. What can I say? Great hotel, excellent service, wonderfull room (we stayed at a Junior Suite). Ideally located for a visit to The Hague, shopping district at walking distance, located in the embassy neighbourhood. Highly recommended. Bathroom with large bath and separate walk in rainshower, classic interior but very tastefull.

Dear Guest,

It is great to read that you are this enthusiastic about your stay in Hotel Des Indes. Thank you for sharing this.

All of our rooms differ in size and style. They were all designed by interior designer Jacques Garcia, and his signature warm colours are to be found in every room and area in the hotel.

We hope to welcome you back soon!

Kind regards,

I stayed in one of the Queen rooms which was a good size and had a very nice view of the city. The room was cosy and the four poster bed was possibly the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The bathroom had two marble sinks, although being on my own in the room I only needed one. The hotel staff were friendly and charming throughout my stay. I had the set menu dinner in the hotel's restaurant which was absolutely fantastic and beautifully presented - far better than I had expected. I highly recommend that you try it. The breakfast buffet on the other hand was a disappointment in comparison – a very standard selection of food such as baked beans, scrambled eggs, dried fruit, nuts, baked goods, etc. Nothing that really stood out unfortunately.

The gym is tiny (with approximately 8 machines, a bench, swiss ball, and a few dumbbells) but you can still have an adequate workout there. The pool is hardly a pool - more like a big Jacuzzi.

The hotel's location is great. Around the corner are lots of small streets with restaurants, cafes, a lovely little bakery (you can buy delicious stroopwafels here),
boutiques and art shops. A few minutes away is the main shopping area.

The Negatives –

1) The sink in the bathroom doesn’t mix hot and cold water together properly so you either get really burning hot water or cold water.

2) There are complimentary tea and coffee facilities in the room but no milk pots. So if like me you like milk in your hot drinks then you will have to call room service.

3) Next, the rain shower - looks good but doesn’t work effectively. The water pressure is extremely weak (pretty much useless I’m afraid). Also the water from the two showers (rain shower and low wall shower) does not get as hot as it should. A friend who was staying in another Queen room at the same time as me agreed with me on all of the above points.

4) The free music channels don’t seem to work.

5) The staff in the restaurant did not inform us that there were 2 set menu dinners and surprisingly gave us the most expensive one without asking us about which set dinner we were referring to. Luckily this set menu dinner was excellent (as mentioned above).

6) No free Wi-fi even in the lobby area. There is however a business centre with a few computers where you can access the internet for 30 minutes.

7) In the evening there was no concierge around to get information from.

Overall however, I would not hesitate to return. It is a beautiful looking hotel with lovely details throughout such as the hand painted tulips on the corridor walls and the velvet staircase banister.

By the way Hotel Des Indes is pronounced ' Hotel Dezand' (almost like hand without the H and S).

Room Tip: Apparently all the rooms have different features. A queen size room is more than enough for a single...

Concerning the shower and its water pressure. Please note that the shower heads have different settings. You can adjust them to any setting you like.

The location of Des Indes could not be better: right on Denneweg, a street with many cafes and restaurants, one block from the Pairlament, 3 blocks from the centre of town. Rooms have been tastefully remodelled.Bathrooms are also very large and modern and come with all the standards. For the best views ask for a room facing the square (Lange Voor...?), although other rooms also have nice city views, specially the ones on high floors. There is a small gym and a pool. The restaurant serves pretty good food and there is also a nice bar. I had breakfast once and it was good. The staff are friendly, but the atmosphere could sometimes feel a bit stiff. Overall I enjoyed my stay, particularly the quality of the rooms and the central location of the hotel (easy to walk anywhere). I personally prefer modern to traditional, so cannot say this is my favourite hotel, but if you like luxury in the "old fashioned way", you would probably like it.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Hotel Des Indes.

We are glad to read that you have enjoyed your stay with us.

Because of the location of Hotel Des Indes, all the important locations in the city are on walking distance. Also, because of the great amount of embassies in the neighbourhood, the area is very safe.

Excellent property with lovely well furnished rooms. We had two rooms and wanted them as connecting rooms & even though this was committed to in the reservation, we were put into two rooms connected with a steep staircase! This was remedied the next day but I was dissatisfied at he fact that the commitment made during the reservation was not kept.

We requested two baby cots and were surprised when we saw two travel cots in the room. These were perfectly functional, but not something we would expect in a luxury collection property.

Room service was always very prompt and breakfasts were excellent. The choice of room service during the day/night was limited. The property itself is not very child friendly, with difficulty bringing in large strollers into the rooms. The location is excellent.

Dear Traveller,

Thank you for your review on Tripadvisor.com.

We are sorry to read that there were a few points that were not to your entire satisfaction. Please note that due to the fact that our hotel is situated in a monumental building all rooms are different is size and features. This is also the reason why we are unable to make promises on the exact location of your room before arrival.

Nevertheless, we will always do our utmost to give all of our guests the rooms that they prefer.

We hope to be able to welcome you back soon to Hotel Des Indes.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights in this fantastic hotel and had a wonderful time. From the initial greeting at reception we knew this was going to be a great place. In fact all staff were so friendly yet efficient - the perfect mixture. The hotel itself is 5 star luxury and very opulent in an old-fashioned kind of way. We had a junior suite and very comfortable it was too. Breakfast was magnificent with the biggest choice of food I have ever seen. The hotel location was also excellent in a quiet area but within walking distance of attractions and shops. All in all highly recommended.

Walking or driving from the city center (plein) towards this place you get a great view of this wonderful hotel. It's bright yellow facade makes this hotel stand out from the surrounding buildings and it just radiates hostorical magnificence and luxury.

Enthousiastic staff welcomes you at the revolving door entrance and the frontdesk staff makes you feel at home right away. The interior of the hotel is like a time machine taking you back more then a century although all modern conveniences are available. Nice rooms with especially nice and spacious bathrooms.

Great place to stay if you want to discover The Hague on foot or by public transportation. It's also an excellent location for a party or reception!

Room Tip: Check bookings.com for great offers up to a 50% discount. All rooms are different but equally nice!

Dear Traveller,

Thank you very much for your great review.

This year Hotel Des Indes celebrates its 130 year jubilee. Since 1881 the hotel welcomes many different travellers that visit The Hague. Among them there were many celebrities, politicians, newly weds and royals.

In December, the Hotel Des Indes jubilee-book will be launched in which you can find many of these wonderful stories.

I've stayed at the hotel several times on business and it is a great option/alternative to staying in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The hotel has a great location and easy to walk to a tremendous number of cafes, restaurants, bistros, sights, Den Haag Centraal train station, shopping districts, Parliament, museums, etc. The rates are really competitive compared to similar class Amsterdam hotels and you won't stay at a nicer hotel. The hotel staff are very friendly, professional, accommodating, and efficient. They remember you when you come back. I haven't had any issues with consistency relating to rooms or service, though everyone is prone to have an off day - so far no problems.

The hotel is very quite and luxurious without being oppressive. There's a good chance you'll run into royalty, diplomats, or even ex-presidents at the hotel (I passed President Jimmy Carter at the front door when leaving the hotel last month). The hotel is well situated near the Centraal train station which provides easy access to Amsterdam, Utrecht, Harlem, Rotterdam, etc. The rooms are spacious, the in room teas & expresso are great, the spa well fitted (but a bit tight) and with a exercise pool, the lounge/restaurant/bar area well done, and the bathrooms are quite luxurious.

Next time I'm in the area I plan on staying there!

Room Tip: I prefer rooms in the front of the hotel as they have a better view and are quieter - unless they ar...
