“Another good week at Art Deco.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

My wife and I just spent another good week at Art Deco. We've stayed here before, so we felt at home. The recent improvements helped make the stay very comfortable, and we enjoyed the breakfasts. We look forward to another stay in the future.

I don't know if the other reviewer was on drugs for the weekend she stayed at the Art Deco but it certainly wasn't a true account of our experience. The house is really old, damp and musty, stinks of stale cigarette smoke. The room was awful, bed lumpy, duvet old and pillow so thin you may as well not have bothered. It was like a jungle in the room, more plants than your typical garden center. The kids room was one bed with a pull out one beside it, this could only be accessed when the first child was on the bed as the room was so small. It was the coldest place i have ever stayed, the shower was in the hall and the kitchenette was like a block of ice. You had to brush your teeth at the kitchen sink as the sink in the toilet was so tiny. The breakfast (where do i start?) inedible. There were muffins that i would say had a best before date somewhere in the next century, some bread and jam all well out of date. Didn't touch any of it. The price was also far too expensive for what we got, 250 euro for 2 nights is more a 4 star hotel price than a dodgy B&B. Never again.

Most guests choose a B&B for the tipical 'art of the house' like mine = Art Déco-style. Or because they like to have contact with the owner which lives in an other house as themselves.
If you are not interested in both aspects I surely advise you not to book a B&B. The guest who wrote this review spend more time writing this destructive critisism than talking to me = about 10 minutes in 2 days. Or paying attention to the information about breakfast = bake off bread is terrible to eat unless you bake the bread in the oven. These guests choose to eat it without baking. Yes, this is terrible! indeed.
The small room is small but most children like this and yes there are other pillows in the closet if you read the information.
I thank the guests for there suggestion about the jungle, I will name my B&B the next 5 years Jungle Book.
Holland Jungle Book instead of country of flowers and plants.

We stayed at this B&B for two nights and rented an appartment on the 1st floor (the owner lives on the ground floor and there are some other rooms to rent on the second floor). As we were with our mother and a baby, we chose a whole apartment and it was an excellent choice. The owner is a lady who is an extremely helpful person with a specific atention to all details. We were warmly welcome at time of our arrival with a busket of fresh fruit (like guests at some hotel suites), candies and a piece of cake (it was the Queen's Day, the national holiday). The apartment is really great and higly recommended to rent instead of the hotel: charming ambience of a typical Dutch house, elegant. very comfortable, consisting of three rooms - sleeping room with a great bed, large and soft (and even the bed linen is worth mentioning - fine and delicate), living room and a small adjoining room also very charming - with a woven busket full of plush toys and so on.
there's also an isolated kitchen, shower and WC (towels, shampoo, bath gel and a hair-dryer). The kitchen is well equipped with all necessary things for living and having meal - an oven for bread, a microwave, tea and coffee and tea-coffee making facilities, a fridge with a minibar (reasonable prices!).
And... the BREAKFAST! First we were provided with a list of explanation notes about the typical Dutch breakfast and it waited for us in reality - in the kitchen (and in the fridge) - fresh, abundant, delightful! I also enjoyed having tea during the day and didn't want to leave the house - it was full of interesting books and albums.
Location - not far from the city center on a quiet street with a parking place (can be payed separately but very cheap), just a few tram stops from the very center. A good supermarket is just opposite the house - you can buy not only the food for lunch and dinner, but also some traditional souvenirs to bring back home - cheese and famous Dutch waffles. The owner supplied us with city maps and all necessary information about the places of interest in den Haag and surroundings and gave us useful advice.

In summary I should underline that it's the most pleasant B&B stay I've ever had in my life with a personal attention of the lady-owner to my specific needs to make us feel like at home. B&B Art Deco - a real gem, don't miss it.
