“'Forget the so-called high tea ..'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

An 'institution' in Rotterdam, we've eaten lunch here on many occasions -- nothing spectacular about the food, though 'pleasant' enough in enjoyable surroundings ..

the so-called 'high tea' is another thing, though .. 'looks' nice, with the 3-tier serving tray, but when you delve into the contents, it's all pretty 'weak'.. some sparsely-filled sandwiches, a tartlet, cupcake, some sweets ... kinda enough to 'fool the kids' but not a 'discerning adult '... yet, seeing about 40 of these 3-tier servers on tables around the room, they're getting away with it -- I guess the average dutch doesn't 'understand' high tea 'quality ... plus, a lavish 'tea choice' produces a teabag in a pot -- apparently 'tea leaves are not convenient' ...

definitely a case of 'high on promise, low on delivery '...

“The Big Sea Food Platter!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

Oh my goodness, the sea food was truly tasty. Between my fiance, his uncle, and I we almost finished the whole thing and it was so much food! Also, the location of Hotel New York is very beautiful and the decoration of the place itself is truly breath-taking. Hotel New York was the highlight of our trip to Rotterdam.

“Great atmosphere, regular food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013 via mobile

I went to visit the Fotograph Museum and was hungry so I visited the hotel as it also appears to be a landmark. The atmosphere is what makes the place worth to visit, but expect regular food (what you can find anywhere).

“Dutch camaraderie”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013 via mobile

The Hotel New York is a melange of a relaxing cafe, a friendly bar, and a local seafood inspired restraint. Located in the Hotel New York you will enjoy the nostalgia of dining in the historic headquarters of the Holland America Lines. I highly recommend not leaving Rotterdam until you enjoyed this lovely Dutch venue. Perfect for business, causal dining and family. I wish I was there now!

“fine food in an authentic place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

after visiting Art Rotterdam, we went for lunch to the Hotel New York restaurant. The setting is perfect, the place looks like it must have been when people left Europe to start a new life in the US, and you're literally looking over part of the (old) port. We went for a quick lunch, but decided to have at least some clams. They were simply perfect, the sauce/soup was mmmmmm, and we stopped only after all of it was gone. The price is certainly not exaggerated considering the location, and service is high standard. We certainly will go back, if you ever are in the centre of Rotterdam, go and enjoy
