“Harbour history in a modern city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

The harbour activities have been relocated to large scale habour area's near the mouth of the Nieuwe Waterweg, at Botlek and Europoort. The Havenmuseum gives a good impression how it once was when the centre of activities were still near town. I always include a (free !) Walk through this open air museum when having visitors from overseas. I mostely combine it with a visit to the statue City without a heart and to the terrace cafe's of Oude Haven or a coffee at Capucchino at Korte Hoogstraat. The municipality seems to have plans to stop financial support to the museum. It would be a big loss, new Rotterdam losing it's image to the past.

“All Style No Substance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

Many maritime museums seems to be stuck in the past. This one though is bang up todate. However the problem is that often the content is just plain dull.I personally had not the slightest interest in the creation of Nedlloyd.this must be the most boring exhibit ever.On the second floor there was an exhibition on pirates which was far too brief.Outside you are able to visit a ship built in the 19th century. This was the most exciting and interesting part of the museum.I think that the curators have rather lost the plot.I cannot see how the interior parts of the museum will interest most people..Truly an opportunity lost.

“An Enjoyable Afternoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

An excellent overall review of the maritime history of Rotterdam and the Netherlands. Easy to get to and quite inexpensive for something of this quality. Leave yourself at least 3 to 4 hours to see everything in the museum and the sailing ship nex door (included in the admission).

“For an expensive place it's too boring”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012 via mobile

The price is too high. For this price I expected to see something more than just pictures, just a few models of ships and a few posters. The museum looks big, but nothing really exiting inside. I was disappointed.
However then we went to a ship, which is included into the price and it improved my impression. Many interactive things inside, interesting historical facts and true old maritime environment.
Dont expect much from the main building - go to the ship.
