“HORRIBLE!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

Stay away from this "hotel"! Extremely overpriced, dirty, the room stinked horribly and the bathroom was extra small. the sink is so small that is impossible to use it for any purpose, the water was not enough warm, horrible forniture, extrimely noisy... and it's not only expensive, you habe also to pay all the duration of your stay by checking in! So: super nice street, but horrible accomodation!

VERY loud, all night long from bars along street. Can't close windows or you'll die of heat in the upper floors. Or the windows won't close anyway. Mosquitos chew you up all night. But you're awake from the street noise anyway, so you may as well be slapping mosquitos. Not very clean. Dishes sticky and disgusting from last guest. Ceiling leaks when it rains. Don't bother asking for things like irons. For a tiny bit more money you can do a LOT better in Rotterdam.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else!

Suited for long stay in the city, especially if working in Erasmus which is just 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel itself is not very nice, I would consider it as an average or little below the average. Stained windows, carpet and almost all stuff but nothing that much annoying. The street is full of different restaurants which becomes noisy at night. Some eating joints are nice though. Walking distance from metro station "Beur" and "Blaak" which makes thing easy. My working place was just 10 minutes walk so that was the best thing for me to happen. Extremely small bed, with not that great bed sheet and linen, even supplied towels are too small. Alternate day room service, and a small area for cooking as well with hot plates and necessary utensil, no phone, even tv not working, wifi code can be obtained from the owner but sometime it refuses to get you the proper access. Rate is on high side if the stay is for short period, but in case if it is supposed to be a prolonged stay then perhaps rate would ultimately go down. I spent eleven nights, although with these basic complains but then I stayed happy during my stay in Rotterdam.

I visited as part of a group of 24 people - four teachers and 20 students. For our purposes this hotel was great. We stayed in the hotel's property at No. 59a Witte de Withstraat and it was ideal for us and our students.

Each room was really like a small apartment in itself and had: a sofa area, dining area,TV, cooking facilities, fridge, en suite shower and was split into a larger bedroom and an annex bedroom. All of this set in a very typically European town house. This set up meant that even as part of a large group, everyone had the opportunity for a bit of space and peace.

In terms of the location, there are maybe few better places for getting into the main business area of Rotterdam. There is a tram line at the end of the street, the Eendrichsplein metro station is around 5 minutes walk away and the shopping area is about a 10 minute walk.

Granted, the experience may be different in the main hotel building, but the apartments at 59a were clean and well presented and suited our group's needs perfectly. Furthermore, the discount available to the group was almost unbelievable and when combined with the attentive staff, made for a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in 59a, away from the main hotel. Witte de Withstraat is a busy place in the evening and i...

Our room was absolutely horrible for the price. The window was broken, carpet stained, the furniture ripped. There were stains on the dining room chairs that made you not want to sit down. The room was backed up against an all night Chinese food place, which made it very smelly, and noisy at all hours of the night. It was impossible to sleep. The Chinese restaurant used the area outside our window as a kind of garbage dump as well, which was just great to look at. STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE! They are only in business to rip off tourists, and have no interest in even providing a basic clean room. And the staff was basically useless, with no idea where to find even basic things like bike rental or internet access. SERIOUSLY - STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! Oh yeah, and there is no WIFI hotspot available.

The room is not terrible, but no nice, extremely overpriced. They charge like a higher start hotel and the rooms are sub-standard. Lots of noise outside at night (many bars) and so its hard to sleep. Staff is not friendly. They advertise their rooms for long stay, but they are VERY small, and would not spend more than a week in there. If one is in Rotterdam for a week or less and can get the rate of long term stay, it might be worth it. At the regular rate, absolutely not.

This hotel is good for the budget traveler who likes to stay out late. It's more like a hostel where you get your own key for the main entrance. The lobby hours are restricted. Main single rooms face the street and could be a bit noisy to sleep at night as there are revelers on the street all night. The double rooms are at the back, where they overlook a small garden and are quiet.

Witte de Wittstraat is a cozy little street where restaurants stay open all night. There are about 15 different cuisines on within a minutes walk.
