Zeezout is for years a constant good choice for fish in Rotterdam. The sun is shining and the tables were put on the pavement. Unfortunately for Zeezout the Dutch are playing against Spain in Brazil for the World championships football; only three tables were occupied. The attentive staff gave us a choice either to be surprised by the chef of choose from the menu. The menu is limited but showed enough room for a rewarding choice, including the usual suspect with “foam”. As an entrée we chose Prawn Spring Roll with bok choy with a couli of tropical fruit and radish, and Salmon With Quail Egg with various kinds of potato, and truffle. As mains; Fried Dutch cod, sweetbread and fried celeriac, Sea bream prepared in salt crust, risotto, green vegetables, parmesan cheese, olive oil, and lobster tempura. All well decorated and the taste was well balanced. Deserts are recommendable too but Zeezout will surprise you when ordering just a coffee. The Dutch won their first match in the championship humiliating the Spaniards five to one, whereas Zeezout won praise for its cuisine. Who could think of bad luck on this Friday the 13th, but the Spaniards?
With a view on the river Meuse and close to a small harbor giving shelter to an collection vintage sailing ships the location is ideal for timeless dining.
