“A real gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

Zinc has been around for quite a while, and has had the honor of watching the rest of the world catch up with the philosophy of sourcing super-fresh local ingredients , with an ecclectic and constantly changing menu.

The restaurant is on its second generation of ownership -- we remember both the father and the son's cooking, and this is without question one of the best places to eat north of Paris. Utterly without pretense you enter past a prep kitchen, into a single small room with a concrete floor. The decor seems unchanged, but the food has moved in a more contemporary direction, exploring more natural flavors.

Come with an open mind, and come hungry.

This is not to be missed, whether you're in Rotterdam for business or on holiday.

“Don't forget your cash!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

Great fresh market restaurant, lovely mussels, fish, goose, Great sorbet made with fresh fruit! Lovely service, we only wanted a half litre of wine, they gave us a bottle but only charged us for what we drank! Sadly, they so not take credit cards so we had to go for a little adventure to find a at machine but they were truly lovely about it!

“A must in Rotterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Being a local I should have been here long ago! I heard a lot of nice things of this place from my acquaintances. It is my turn to tell about the place... We reserved in advance to avoid any disappointment. It is situated in Veerhaven, which is one of the posh locales of Rotterdam. We were there at 6pm, a normal dutch dinner time. The ambiance is very homely and rustic. When we are entering the place, we already get the feeling that Zinc puts all its money in the food and not on the walls or carpets. As expected the fixed menu made up of local vegetables/fish is very tasty and neatly served. We were one of the few to start the dinner early but in no time the restaurant is full. Highly recommended for locals as well for the visitors to the city. It seems the food a little pricy when you are entering the place and not yet started eating!! But after the dinner you will definitely feel that its worth it.

“Sure favourite!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

We've been to Zinc four or five times now and never been disappointed. Food is French style with an innovative twist and the menu changes daily depending on fresh seasonal local produce. Last week I had a starter of gazpacho with scallops, a main of sole with white asparagus and a dessert of rhubarb tarte tatin but the food is always delicious, whatever the menu! And there is also a house appetizer to open your appetite, all for around 30 EUR. There's an excellent choice of wines at good prices with the option of having a bottle and paying according to how much you drink. The atmosphere is friendly and informal with good service. Book to avoid disappointment because this place can get quite busy.

“Good value, set in a historic location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

We'd never been to this part of the city before. It was one of the few areas untouched by any bombs, so is steeped in history with beautiful architecture and next to the water. It was unfortunate that the restaurant didn't have our reservation (as it was our anniversary) but fortunately we were early enough and so they were still able to seat us. I liked the interior decor and there were enough dishes to choose from, but I felt the service let the place down. We had a long wait to be served (our waitress arrived for her shift once we were already seated) and enjoyed a long pause between courses. I would recommend visiting here, but having read some of the other reviews I didn't leave raving about the place, nor in a hurry to return - I loved the neighbourhood and perhaps we were just unlucky on this particular occasion.
