“Second Class”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2014

The hotel itself was fine but you were made to feel like second class citizens. The hotel is directly linked to the Golden Tulip with only one user guide for both. All you could read about was what you got if you were a Golden Tulip customer and what you didn't get if you were a Tulip customer ie No drinks fridge; no safe; no tea/coffee; no trouser press etc etc. I appreciate the room price was cheaper but I didn't like the idea of being constantly told what I wasn't getting.
Can you feedback this back suggesting they have a separate user guide for Tulip Customers. It has put me off using them again. I stopped here two years ago but didn't notice this as I was booked in as a Golden Tulip customer.
Hope this helps and doesn't just sound out as moaning.
I am a frequent traveller abroad using many hotels and this is my first "complaint"
Booked with otel.com but couldn't seem to send review to them via e mail.

Restaurant - outstanding. Amazing meals for dinner - chef's special at dinner is made up of 3 outstanding courses + price is very fair. Breakfast buffet is free and not at all special.
Staff - outstanding and extremely helpful. Old part of hotel - rooms not renovated. Bed and room very uncomfortable, but clean. First room was dreadful as I windows opened onto a highly traveled street. No air conditioning options so open windows were the only option.
Easy to walk to museums and tons of restaurants/pubs plus magnificent medieval city on canals!
Millions of people riding bikes - a university town ! Be careful !

Room Tip: Be sure to request a room in the renovated section

Stayed here for one night. It is a decent hotel, nothing special, but clean and good sized rooms. No safe nor minibar in room. Breakfast was ok, staff was friendly. Very close to trainstation, which is a good thing. It was very quiet though, even though it is on a busy road next to the station!!

The hotel is the slightly cheaper half of two Tulip hotels but it's still quite nice. Everything seems clean, and I get the impression our room has been recently improved. The tv and some of the furnishings seem quite new so, whilst a little sparse, it's all very pleasant and perfect for our requirements.

The reception staff were very friendly and (like almost everyone in holland it seems) spoke almost perfect English.

My one complaint is hat the shower cubicles are quite small. As a man over 6 feet tall I felt a little claustrophobic when washing.

That said I would happily stay here again should I visit Leiden in the future.

The room was clean, quiet, and well organized. Staff are friendly and kind. The price was reasonable. Walking distance to almost anywhere worth visiting in Leiden, e.g., Leiden University, Siebold Museum, Botanical Garden of Leiden University, V & D Department Store, Dutch Folklore Museum, Dutch Craft Museum, even to the Harbor.
The reason I didn't give 5 is that one of our group was not booked although we notified them about him and they had a list of our members including him. Even after our sponsor told them he should have been booked, he had to pay by himself at check-out (he got the reimbursement thereafter from our sponsor).
Anyway, to err is human and to forgive is also human. This hotel is overall very good.

Room Tip: Not Applicable, Sorry.

Tulip Inn is attached to big brother Golden Tulip hotel and located very close to the center of Leiden. Nice rooms, soft beds, very clean.
Bathroom is good size but the shower cabin could have been a bit bigger.
People at the reception desk and in the restaurant and very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast buffet is outstanding. There is a good and cosy bar which is open until 1 AM. which is nice.
Only negative thing is that there are no roomsafes in the Inn. You can rent a safe at the reception desk and your safe is located in the Luggage room. There are only a few safes. Costs; €2,50 a day. I think in 2013 a room in a hotel in this price range should have a roomsafe.

Tulip Inn is well located, one block away from Leiden Centraal, from where you can go anywhere in Leiden. There are also many restaurants in the area. The room was comfortable, but the stay ended up being too expensive, due to the overpriced room service and breakfast (I strongly recommend having breakfast at the train station if you stay there). I stayed there for one night in January 2012.
