This is an old, but well renovated, hotel. It has fairly steep stairs and no lift, although the receptionist will quickly volunteer to help you with your luggage. We opted for a ‘luxury’ room, which proved to be rather an overstatement for what was a fairly ordinary room, although it had a very good bathroom. (As he had requested a bath, I suppose you could say that we got what we asked for). The furniture was a nice mixture of the old and the new, with a very comfortable bed, comfortable armchairs and a wardrobe which was kept closed by a Leiden brochure wedged under the door. Wifi connection was consistently excellent, whilst reception on the small (and badly situated) T.V. was hopeless. The central heating worked, but struggled to heat the bedroom above 18 degrees in mid April. Breakfast was excellent, being copious and of very good quality. The location of the hotel could hardly be better, being an easy walk from the station and all the tourist sights. The staff were quick to be helpful at every opportunity, and obviously wanted to please. Altogether, I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants something different from the bland and soulless experience of a chain hotel.
