THE best hotel I've ever stayed in. Friendly, service minded, different, unique. The old water tower is an experience worth while getting. The style and ambiance of this place is just perfect. No luxury standard box hotel, but a place way out of the ordinary. Get a room in the tower or a garden room for a little extra, overlooking the herb/vegetable garden for the restaurant, but frankly any room goes. The restaurant is also an experience, not the most extensive a la carte menu, but food is just great. You have to try their cheesecake with a glass of muscat on the side.

Room Tip: Anything goes, but for that little extra, try one of the 2 story rooms in the reservoir or a garden...

You'll pay more for a so-called Garden Room if you have children. These prefabs are worse than Centre Parcs or Butlins. The bunks have missing railings around the top bunk and are simply dangerous for children. These rooms are tiny and poorly decorated, no more than an up-market garden shed in our opinion. We ended up paying 140E+ and one of us had to sleep on the floor as the bunks were dangerous - any small child would fall easily from the top. Adults could sleep on the top but there's very little headroom with the sloping roof. There's a detachable ladder needed to get to the top bunks but when in place, it makes the tiny room difficult to move around. It's a great shame that this hotel has chosen to make as much money as possible by building this pre-fab block in the garden - just greed.

The hotel is actually too far away from the historic core of Dordrecht (1.2km) and so if you want to really experience the town, stay elsewhere. It's surrounded by an area of waste land awaiting redevelopment - unsightly. The car park is unsecured and just part of the waste land.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere

I stayed at the Villa Augustus while traveling on business. It is truly the most unique and zany hotel I have stayed at – this is a good thing! The hotel is built into an old water tower and is surrounded by crops, used in the onsite restaurant. Rooms are all decorated in very abstract ways, the particular room I stayed in was painted in fluros with pop culture art all over the walls. The fridge was built into an old crate. The room itself was the cheapest available – but was still generous in size with an excellent shower.

Wifi was fast and reliable and a desk and lamp were provided making pre/post-meeting work nice and easy.

The only downside of rooms on the ground level is the constant foot traffic walking past. Each room has a huge window, so if privacy is needed curtains must be drawn. The keys were also very hard to use (old large metallic keys).

The biggest positive of all at this hotel were the staff, who were INCREDIBLY friendly and helpful.

Would highly recommend this to all who visit Dordrecht.

Room Tip: Avoid staying on the ground floor if possible - lots of foot traffic with little privacy

This hotel is an excellent choice for a weekend together. We stayed on the fifth floor what used to be the water reservoir. The rooms are nicely decorated and the bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is downstairs with big tub and walk in shower. The city is within walking distance, for dinner however you could stay on the premises since the restaurant serves excellent meals with good service.

Very good weekend! The hotel is very "special" totally different from other ones but in a positive way. Large rooms, king size beds, large bathroom. Everything was perfect: the view, the gardens, the restaurant and what to say about the breakfast! excellent.

This hotel has great views, clean rooms and very helpful staff. The garden we saw from the third floor, but didn't visit because of the weather. That is a must for next time, because it will look awesome in spring. What a great stay we had! Lunch, dinner and breakfast next door was also very nice.

Having stayed in Dordrecht before, I was pleasantly surprised by Villa Augustus. Quirky and different in a positive way, my room was large and furnished with shabby chic recycled furniture, but the bed was great; big and comfortable with nice linen. Large bathroom with good overhead shower and double sinks. Good breakfast, with eggs to order and above average croissants.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the back garden, as it is really quiet.
