“Good location, near city centre”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

Average hotel, a bit "outaged". But location is very well, only 5 mins. walk from the hart of Middelburg, with all the shops and the cosy old city centre.
Very noice place.Needs a good renovation. Staff very friendly. Breakast is average, but all you want is there and also enough.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 4th floor. Small and noice rooms. Bathroom is also outaged, but all works. Be caref...

Really any fee would be too high for this place. It's like a place that has not been redecorated since the late 1960's. It's not expensice, but still way too expensive for it's quality. The location is great for exploring the city by foot, but I would pick another place and use a taxi/public transport.

This is an old fashioned hotel what would do well in a road movie situated in the fifties.
Not extremely bad, especially the location and the breakfast, everything else can only be appreciated with a sense of humour or a nose for cult.
What to say more about my experience with the sex sounds of my neigbours, sound was excellent but sex was average. Was this the bonus for the charge what was far from moderate?

Room Tip: I guess all the rooms would fit in this roadmovie. Dont expect to fall asleeep.

This hotel is well situated, but we had some challenges. The first challenge was the parking. They indicated that there is free parking "not far from the hotel". In the end it turned out that that parking is normally full during day time, so we spent a lot of money on parking! Then, although we booked a family room, they first put us in a double room until we complained. We were also not feeling well, and arrived a bit earlier. Instead of offering us a place to sit and wait until the room is ready, we had to walk outside in the cold until we could get into the room. The breakfast was fairly good. Eventually the family room catered for our needs - comfortable beds. This is an old building - full of character. But the hotel is situated close to the city center and the station - so the setting is good!

Room Tip: The double rooms are VERY small - rather choose a family room - even if you are only two people

In the NL a large number of people use bicycles; the tiny room in this hotel set aside for bikes is insufficient. The room including bathroom was small, badly kept and most things didn't work properly: Shower, drainage, windows etc. The breakfast was good and catered for most wishes. The breakfast room was bright, roomy and cheerful. The price was not at all justified for the poor room quality. The situation near to the town, 5 minutes on foot, is a plus point.

Firstly, being opposite the train station doesn't conjure up a lovely image however - when you find yourself looking out across a beautiful canal on a sunny day or summer's evening, it really does confound you. The room was pretty poor - and oddly, it felt very french: basic, a comfy bed, but barely acceptable standards of amenities with paper-thin walls. Even so, we pushed the two single beds up to the window, which was at the same height, and watched the world literally sail by. A poor room that was oddly charming.
But, to carry on with the french theme: the pièce de résistance was the food. We were on a room and board deal so we were treated to a four course à la carte meal. We chose a house red (tempranillo) that was delicious, and this complemented superbly with the very tasty french cuisine. I had a very pretty salad caprese, with one of the best lamb dishes I have ever had. It was perfectly cooked (pink) and had a superb sauce.
Another source of charm at this hotel is the staff. I am sure it is run by experienced owners/management team, but the face of the hotel during our stay was young and surprisingly helpful.
So, the bottom line is this: stay for the food, stay for the view, watch the world go by from the brasserie or your room, but pay little attention to the details outside the restaurant, and you can be sure to find the charm in this popular hotel by the water.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a view over the water.

I was booked into the Hotel Du Commerce as part of a conference package. Having read the Trip Advisor reviews the night before I left for the Netherlands, I feared the worst. But really I can't complain. The staff seemed quite friendly; my room was slightly tired, but it was clean and spacious and everything (shower, TV, etc.) worked as it should have done; the breakfast was exactly what I would have expected from a middle-range Dutch hotel. I doubt anyone staying there will feel particularly uplifted by the experience, but there was nothing to get upset about either.
