“I had a great time!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

This hostel is great! It feels as comfortable as staying in a home. The kithen was full of food you could have anytime (including eggs, a variety of meats, cheeses, apple tart, breads, spreads, milk, beer, tea, coffee...). The owner is wonderful to talk to and very helpful

Room Tip: When I stayed in the 21 person dorm, it was only me and 3 other girls. Pretty comfortable. If you...

Quite noisy and dirty. The entrance full of dirty bed linen lying in the floor, rusty showers with mushrooms in the ceiling (see user pictures), overcrowded dorms with balls of dust and hair...I know it's a hostel but this one really doesn't stand for the minimum requirements. And then, when the night comes it's really noisy inside, the atmosphere, the mattress and the size of the dorms dorms make it rowdy there, it's quite difficult to have a good sleep.
I wouldn't recommend this hostel to anybody.

B&B Utrecht is a very well-located hostel for backpackers and at a reasonable price too. I only stayed for one night which coincidentally overlapped with the farewell party of one of the guests. I felt very welcomed, the food was pretty good and the atmopshere, quite laid-back. You are welcome to cook your own meals with free ingredients that are available from very early in the morning till midnight. If you are carrying your laptop, you can count on fast wifi, but if not, you can easly make do with some nice computers at the reception. The only drawback I experienced were the showers. There are only 4 on the second floor with slow water flow.

It's a really nice place to spend a few nights in. The staff is friendly, there's free internet and free food.
However, in the two nights we were there, it happened three times that the staff gave a guest a bed which was already taken, leading to a lot of inconvenience in weird hours of the night.

The place is not easy finding, the owner was nice but seemed quite unreliable. I asked for a room just for girls, booking days un advance and in the end they didn't have it. The room's door didn't close properly and in general the place didn't look very safe. Go to Strowis instead! It's also cheaper!

I stayed in this hostel (as a single female traveller) for 4 nights in January.

To start with, if you've chosen to stay in a 20euro pppn hostel, you shouldn't have high expectations and this hostel is far from a disaster - I've paid far more for far worse. Bad points first - the "female dorm" was mixed every night, and the window didnt close (a lot of street noise). For me, the worst was the lighting in the bedroom and the bathroom were extremely poor, and although this was good when you're trying to sleep, it was pretty much impossible to pack/read/do anything. Room and bathroom were pretty badly furnished and not definately not clean.

HOWEVER, it's not all bad news for this hostel. There's a cosy lounge area upstairs with TV, sofas, tables, power sockets, and computers. Also, there's a great kitchen which is well stocked with staple foods (pasta, cheese, coffee etc) of which you can help yourself for free whenever you like. Breakfast buffet was cooked for you. This was invaluable when travelling on a shoestring budget.

Conclusion: Could be a very nice little city hostel, but right now, it definately needs improvement. With more effort from the staff to keep the place clean and repaired, and with better lighting, this could be a great budget hostel.

For the moment though, bring your own bedding and a torch.
