“Comfortable and centrally located”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2010

This is a cosy upper middle-class hotel in the heart of Utrecht with a typical Best Western flair. Because of it's central location on Vredenburg square, it is the perfect starting point for a shopping trip and a city sightseeing.

POSITIVE ASPECTS
Besides it's location, it has a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Most rooms are decorated in astronomy themes which gives them a very unique feel, and the rooms on the higher floors offer a stunning view over Utrecht. An all-night Albert Heijn supermarket is located at the nearby central station.

NEGATIVE ASPECTS
The otherwise safe area becomes a bit less safe at night, and remains noisy until late hours, so having the windows open is not an good option.

LOCAL TRANSPORT
Utrecht central station is 5 minutes away on foot, with frequent train connections to Schiphol airport aswell as other national and international destinations. A tram and bus stop is located at the station.

Slept in executive room (408). Room furnished to the minimum. No mini bar for a 4 star hotel?? Bathroom o.k. BUT the least you can offer your guests as a hotel is A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP. The bad isolation of the balcony window and door kept me awake untill 04.30. Noisy and busy traffic, a taxi-place including their drunk clients in front of the hotel. At 06.00 a market was built up in front of the hotel. I hardly slept and had an important business meeting that day so I was not amused. Besides the fence of the balcony is dangerous low even for small children.

We enjoyed a two-night stay at the Apollo in September 2010. The hotel is in a great location, very close to the train station, shopping areas and the lovely canal district. Check-in was quick and friendly and our room (605) on the back of the hotel was spacious, nicely decorated and equipped, and very quiet.

The corridors are something of a rabbit warren, but once you've worked them out, the hotel is easy to get around. There are plenty of stairs so I'm not sure it would be suited to those who have problems climbing stairs, even with the elevators here.

The free lounge bar area with good coffee and tea available all the time is a nice touch, as is the free internet (only one PC but we never had trouble getting onto it during our stay).

We actually had trouble finding the hotel, its signage is very small so be aware of that when looking for it. Apart from that, nothing at all to complain about. The Oudegracht is literally around the corner and gives you access to the nicest parts of this lovely city.

In summary, this is a good standard of hotel at a reasonable price. Good clean rooms, nice staff and a great location are the main reasons to return.

The location of this hotel is just Great ! Me and my colleagues had a good stay with the Apollo Hotel Utrecht. We checked in at 21:10. During check in procedure the friendly clerk gave us a good description of the restaurants in the area. He told us the hotel offered a phenomenal breakfast, what I do confirm. The free coffee (and espresso's) woke me up for a good meeting in the Jaarbeurs.

Likes: Breakfast, Friendly staff, location, Free internet

Stayed here on business for a couple of nights. Good location for the station and town centre. Room was comfortable enough and quiet, but it really could not be described as a four star hotel. It's more like a three-star or higher end "lodge / express" type. Not cheap either.

I visited Utrecht to attend a conference. I am of Dutch Nationality.

The best aspect of the hotel: location. Walking distance to all the restaurants, bars, train station etc. As a result there is no evening restaurant (except for breakfast) and no room service. Personnel was friendly and professional. Cleaning was not really great.

I have travelled extensively as a business traveller, and this was one of the least impressive rooms I have had (including all the hotels I have stayed in in The Netherlands). Claiming 4 stars is over the top. The room was much more like a 2-3 star Bastion hotel (where I have also stayed), although breakfast was quite good. The room I had was small by any standards (and not huge as some other reviews I have read). The bed was narrow, short, reasonable comfortable but not great. The bathroom was more 2-star than 4 star: not for the claustrophobic and fittings that were very cheap. When turning around I bumped my head against the walls and wash basin which are always far away. The TV system was modern and fairly easy to use. The room was not equiped with a fridge so bying stuff in a store could not be kept refrigirated.

The hotel layout was rather weird, and involved two elevators, a 40 m corridor which is narrow and with low ceiling, and then another elevator to odly numbered floors.

The hotel is clean and central, very convenient location. The staff is not so friendly, and quality/price not up to the 4 stars standard.
The room on the back was reasonably big but bathroom quite old and not maintained properly.
I would not go again if have other options 1 night was around 180 euro and breakfast 17 euro ...added!
