“Not a bad place but can use and upgrade”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

Some people would say the decor in this hotel is charming, which it is. But it is outdated and needs an update. The carpet in my room was just dirty.

I had a room with infrared sauna and jacuzzi (regular sized bath) which was pretty neat. Room was spacious as well but it didn't really feel all that clean. I had different rooms on different nights but I would avoid rooms on the top floor as they have no elevator and lugging suitcase of steep and narrow stairs is a hassle. Also the water pressure up there was horrendous. I could hardly get the shampoo out of my hair.

Location wise this is pretty good. Free parking in the street and walk to city centre is about 10 minutes and allows you to have dinner and drinks in the city without the hassle of driving.

Biggest letdown was breakfast, which was far too expensive for the spread!

Staff was very friendly, no complaints in that department.

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was fabulous. The service was excellent and location was fantastic. Breakfast is really good , you can hire bicycle from station which is 10 min away. Hotel has lovely courtyard and awesome bar. Hotel has jacuzzi and sauna bath in the oom. Free parking offstreet. Attraction wise Zwolle is nice town and Giethroon is nearby which is must see. Would be back again. Dutch people were very friendly..........

Charming and nice jugent still hotel. The beds are pretty small but with jacuzzi in the room we didn't mind. Also a warm welcome. The high Tea and breakfast very complete. Close (walking distance) to the city centre.

My partner and I reserved a "high wine" as stated on the website.
We were supposed to have a bottle of pink prosecco but it turned out to be a white sparkling wine...
We have had 5 oysters each with some bread and butter on the side. They did taste nice but the whole portion could have been bigger for the price!

Afterwards a cup of coffee with some chocolates, nice!

Overall just an average visit, i've had better...

PS: the interior is beautiful!!!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2010

During one of my business trips to Zwolle, I stayed for four nights at the Fidder. Overall I had a positive experience, and it was an interesting change for once, when usually staying at larger hotel chains during business trips. This is a place I would see myself visiting during a vacation. There is one thing though that the hotel could improve...

The hotel: The hotel is charming and cosy, with excellent personal service. They serve good food in the restaurant, and have very good breakfast (omelette, bacon, fried tomatoes and mushrooms, several bread types, different hams and cheeses, cornflakes, muesli, yoghurt, fruits and juices). The hotel is also close to Zwolle centre, about a 10 minutes walk. In the centre you have many nice restaurants along e.g. Melkmarkt.

The room: Although the hotel has very particular charm and décor, my room (#27) was a little disappointing, in comparison to the rooms you can see on their webpage. The room was spacey though, the bathroom was clean, as were the bed linens, but the stains on the floor and the chairs were rather disgusting. Cleaning these would make the overall impression of the hotel much better, and increase the rating of the hotel. Also, I would personally not pay more to get a room with what they call a sauna, as it was more or less a one-person-fitting “infrared heated box”. What is also good to know, is that the stairs to reach higher floors in the hotel are rather steep, and thus not suitable for all.

Arriving by train from Schiphol airport: If you arrive at Schiphol airport, the trains to Zwolle leave every 30 minutes daytime, take 1h 25min, and cost about 18 € one-way in 2nd class. When arriving at Zwolle train station, the hotel is about 10-15 minutes’ walk away. If you walk, you turn left when coming out from the train station. When you reach the traffic lights, cross the street and continue left. Pass the gas station and take the second street to the right (Wilhelminastraat), and the hotel will be visible on the right hand side. Note: If leaving Zwolle by train, you can only buy train tickets with cash. The train station does not accept credit cards.

In conclusion, this is a really interesting place to stay at, which will cheer up your business trip, and I recommend it for vacationers too. The décor is art nouveau, and service is excellent. If you disregard the stains in the room, it was a very pleasant stay.

Although this Hotel is slightly out of town it is well worth staying here simply for the decor and ambience. The house itself is a stunning example of opulence from another era. In fact the Hotel is now 3 houses with high ceilings and many period features together with a wonderful collection of memorabilia. The well trained staff give you a wonderful warm welcome whether you are sitting at the bar having pre-dinner drinks or enjoying great cuisine in the dining room. The bedrooms are very individual, beautiful old wooden beds with heavy draperies and tasteful furnishings. Breakfast was very nice too.

I think this is one of the funniest hotels in the Netherlands. The hotel is decorated in a jugendstil -style and is one walking distance of the centre of the city.
The hotel has a little restaurant and the food is excellent !
