I started composing this review on the Saturday in the shower with some pretty positive things to say about this motel.
It’s ideally situated in my opinion for motorcyclists visiting MotoGP/WSB/BSB events, who are taking the Monday afternoon ferry home from Hook of Holland. It’s close to the motorway intersection & well sign-posted and within an easy ride from the circuit and then on the next morning to the ferry.
Semi-secure parking, all the comforts of a modern hotel and with some nice design touches that made it feel a little bit “special”.
Breakfasts on Sunday & Monday mornings were very good. Toms in cheese, Scrambled Eggs, cocktail sausages & that “bacon” the Continentals have, get you a “Full English” if that’s your preference. Continental bread & rolls with cheese, meat & fish slices if it isn’t &/or you can eat as much as I do. All supported by the usual “healthy” cereal options (which I ignore). Good juice. Good Coffee. Good Teas including herbal.
Evening menu wasn’t exciting or extensive, take a cab into town (E15 including tip each way) for that, but it was inoffensive, filling and there were choices for vegetarians (we recommend the Goat’s Cheese filos btw).
On Saturday night we got back to the room to find the toilets had apparently backed up and the smell of sewage drove us out of the room into the corridor.
The hurried move to a less well-positioned room lost/mislaid some key essentials (my sterling money clip for example) and the bathroom light flicked in an alarming, irritating and headache inducing manner.
That raw sewage smell drew our attention to the flies that plagued us & our food, both at the bar and at breakfast. We assumed the two were connected.
On Check-Out we expressed our disappointment to the Weekday Commercial Manager, the Weekend CM wasn’t sufficiently empowered to offer us anything in compensation beyond a voucher for a free drink at the bar, an offer we’d found insulting & rejected.
As I’d paid for the weekend up front, Henriëtte was only able to promise us 50% off of our next visit to the Mercure Zwolle, an offer we accepted as, as you’ve gathered from the opening paragraph or 2, I’m probably going to go back there for 2014 because of it’s convenience.
Hope that helps you.
