Room was ok nice view on meadows, problem was there was a freezing draught in our room. After a phonecall within one minute a boy came to sort out the airco. breakfast the things that were there were fine, but it seemed there were missing the spoons,. People at the reception desk were helpful and gave us the address and a map of a restaurant in the neighbourhood, they have an elevzator s well, so no climbing staircases, price was a bit high. I found the air of the smokers was still hanging around a very littlebit, though only in the hallwY,not int the rooms themselves though. there was a huge fine on smoking in rooms. The entrance for the parking was a bit confusing, as it seemed to need a ticket. But when you read it well it said the customers of the hotel could park their car free.

We made a last minute discounted reservation, it was good value for money. It was inclusive of a good breakfast. There are special parkingspots for the ladies right in front of the entrance. We will stay again with this price.

This is one of the very best hotels we have ever stayed at, considering the price. The staff was extremely efficient and helpful (and obviously hard-working), the room was extremely clean, everything worked, hassle-free internet and tv, absolutely outstanding breakfast. If you have a car, the situation is ideal: quiet, easy free parking, near the main highway (if you don't have a car, on the other hand, it's at least a half hour walk into the centre of the very nice town of Zwolle). The restaurant is not cheap and the choice is quite limited, if you want to have dinner, but the food tastes good.
But all in all you cannot get better than this for the price.

I'd love to give this 5/5 but I can't.

Everything about it was very good. Very clean, helpful and polite staff, good food, comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms (even the shower cubicle was more spacious than others I have used), complimentary toiletries, regular housekeeping. Everything I could have asked for.

However.......

Although I had researched the hotel prior to booking, I thought the location was going to be better. It was sat out the way of everything else, and at least 2.5m (per google maps) from the City Centre.

As a lone traveller, with no access to a car, I found myself paying on average €12-€13 per journey for a taxi, which soon added up over my 1 weeks stay. And this journey was essential due to their being little else around the hotel to go to, I.e. restaurants, attractions etc. or at least I didn't find anything on foot while there.

I got the impression it was more suited to Business Clients, and there seemed to be a lot of business-like people at the hotel while I was there.

Breakfast had a variety of options. I managed to get the breakfast included in my booking at no extra charge, and cannot recall how much it was separately, so can't say for certain if it was value for money, but I don't have any complaints about it if that helps!

The food in the restaurant was very tasty. Every dish I had, usually of a meat nature (burger, chops etc) tasted exceptional. I was very impressed. It did however come with a price tag. You did get a bowl of chips (decent size portion) and a bowl of salad too. I found it easier to pay these prices though, rather than fork out for 2 taxi's, then a meal and a drink in the Centre.

All staff I met with, either in the bar, restaurant, or the reception desk were always happy to help. Whether this was to place an order for food or drinks, order a taxi, or to pay my bill etc. They were also on hand to greet customers with a 'Good Morning' or a 'Good Afternoon / Evening'. The housekeeping staff were also very polite and willing to return to your room later that day if the fist visit wasn't convenient.

I found myself returning to the hotel after midnight one evening, and the doors were locked! However as the reception is manned 24/7, there was someone available to let me in.

The bed was very comfortable, and there was 2 chairs available on the room to sit on (one at the dressing table and one beside the bed).

There was also tea and coffee making facilities in the room, and these were re-filled daily by housekeeping.

My room was on the top floor, and had two sky lights which looked out onto the surrounding green areas. Although I've been critical of the location due to transport links / closeness to the City Centre, it did mean the area was very quiet, and not even the neighbouring animals made any nuisance noise.

I had a wardrobe in the room available to use, including Mercure branded hangers, so no need to take your own if you want your clothes hanging up!

There was air conditioning in the room, although as my room was out of the sun most of the day, I didn't need to utilise it as much as I may have needed to in another room.

All in all, I was very impressed with my first visit to a Mercure hotel, and would look to use them again. However I would have to ensure the location was suited to my needs.

If you want a quiet hotel, and have access to a vehicle meaning you won't have to rely on taxi's, this would be an ideal for both Business and Pleasure.

If however, like myself, you don't have access to a car, and plan to get around The Netherlands, presumably via the very reliable train network, then I would say it may not be suitable, unless there is more than one of you to foot the taxi transfer costs each day (I did walk the distance between the hotel and the train station / City Centre, but this atleast a 35-40 minute walk).

This Hotel chain would definitely get 5/5 stars from me, but the location has had a major bearing on my review (but I can't see it deserving any less than 4/5 on this one issue, as everything else was of an excellent standard).

Dear Guest,

I would like to start by thanking you for taking the time to write a review of Hotel Mercure Zwolle on Tripadvisor.
Your kind words have been passed on to our team. This will certainly motivate them to keep up the good work.

I regret that our location did not meet your expectations. I understand the issue that you did not want to use an expensive cab every day. Therefore, we have some bicycles which can be used for free to go to the citycentre. I am sorry to hear that our staff did not suggest you to use one those bikes. Maybe a good suggestion for your next stay?

Besides this, we are so happy you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you again.

Kind regards,
Hotel Mercure Zwolle

The Mercure in Zwolle is a nice, quiet business hotel. Rooms are clean and there's free wireless.
Best when you have a car, but the town center is only a short cab ride away.
Unfortunately they don't have a gym.
