“Very pleasant!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

Review based on a one-night stay but we have stayed here frequently in the past. Don't bother with the parking garage, nip-round to P3 and park there. costs a bit but the hotel's garage is small, cramped and a dent/scratch just waiting to happen. Check-in smooth and efficient, room large, bathroom even larger. rain-shower more a drizzle shower, basic amenities (I hate those soap dispensers), no bath-oil for the bubble-bath, beds way too soft and hardly any support. room quiet and quite pleasant. Was a party going on but no sound reached the room.

Breakfast was great (lovely coffee), ignore the pre-fab scrambled eggs (is that really necessary? pre-fab scrambled eggs YECH!) go for the fresh eggs. plenty of variety and plenty of choice! Really a plus!
Did not eat at the hotel (see separate review of ' tapas' bar) or bar. enjoyed the stay and will definitely return.

Room Tip: Try and get a room in the wing (not the main building), these a quieter and away from the maddening...

Stayed one night on business. Rooms were large and bright, bathrooms relatively modern. Beds very soft and unsupportive. Service was a bit surly but ok. Breakfast was good. I would stay again on next visit to Almelo.

It might be a Tuesday. Fill your boots on unlimited ribs.
Located just West of central, one minute from the shops and pubs. Good breakfast, nice staff. Not 5 star but not 3 star if you know what I mean.

Hotel is OK - but I will always try to avoid any hotel that thinks its reasonable today to charge customers 6EU PER HOUR for internet service. (Dont they realise this is a basic requirement today, as important as say hot water to most of us)

They do offer the first 2 hrs free each day, but they are seriously insulting their customers intelligence by charging 6EU per hour after that. Are we back in 1979? Come on guys - you need to do better than this for your customers.... (I think all/most other VanDerValk hotels have free interent now, why is this one different?)

My advice - stay at the HUIS VAN BEWARING Hotel nearby which is a privately-run boutique hotel, which is better, cheaper, much more stylish, more interesting, and has FREE INTERNET 24/7. I tried to stay there this week but they were fully booked this week... Go figure...

I was here in 2010, back again in 2012. Our room this time was more modern, very clean, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, love the breakfast buffet, and looked forward to the amazing coffee every morning we were here. This hotel is in the middle of everything, get yourself a bike and explore! Husband went to work, I had a relaxing time here!

We've stayed at this hotel many times over the last couple of years. Mostly we combine our stays with a theatre show on the weekends as there will be an afterparty after these shows and we can dance. Staff has always been very helpful and John (the bartender) is just the sweetest guy. Since the new wing was completed, we've only stayed in this newer part of the hotel as the rooms are a bit bigger, have newer beds and the bathroom is great as it has both a rainshower and bubblebath :-)

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

Stayed here for two nights on a business trip on the recommendation of a colleague. Never let the man choose the hotel.

It's a huge place, with the theatre and conference rooms - apparently from Sept to July it's packed, with up to 500 people a night in the restaraunt and bar. I can only think this would be a nightmare. The entire reception area is filled with tables, as is the mezzanine.

My room was a good size, facing the front of the hotel, where the entrance and exit to the underground car park is. Also the stairwell. The hotel is shaped like a horse shoe, creating a wonderful well like effect, where every noise - car, voice, scream, shout, laugh, fart - is amplified, and echoes. The balcony is separated from the neighbouring room by a wall that is only 3 feet high - so no privacy. The door is designed to open inwards as a window (all 6' x 6') or slide open as a door - expect that once opened, the weight pulled it inwards, making it impossible to leave open, as it would always slide open.

Lighting in the room was abysmal - one standard lamp in the far corner, pelmet lighting over the desk and bed and one over head light for the wardrobe. Just as bad in the bathroom.

Bed was dreadfully soft, with no support, and the pillow like a marshmallow. And why pretend it's a double by pushing two singles together, with two separate duvets? No air conditioning, no fans, and I couldn't leave the window open for the noise, or the lack of security.

The bathroom did have a separate bath (definitely no spa bath in this room!) and shower, however this was tempered by the fact that there wasn't any shower gel, shampoo or conditioner - aside from the medical soap in the grubby dispenser on the wall. The toilet was stained, and the face cloth was a paper mitten in a box. At least the towels were clean, though there was nowhere to put them once you'd used them.

The wifi worked ok for me to download emails, and check in to my flight home (hurrah).

No idea what breakfast was like; I did have a drink in the bar; the barman (John?) is a very nice guy and talks many languages very well.

I imagine if this was a place to crash for one night, it would be OK, however I think i'll find somewhere else next time. Apparently there is a pool, although the signs in the hotel are so small and poorly placed , that it was probably in the next town.
