Just back from a four night stay over the Easter period.
Lucky that there is a massive Primark across the road as the first two days were so cold that my wife needed to buy an extra layer!
Zaandam itself is nice enough, a few restaurants and bars scattered around, and some shops, although not much open on Sunday, but we travelled into Amsterdam Central each day, for only €4.50 each return and two stops, also easy to get from the airport by train for €5.50 a ticket, certainly beats a taxi!
The hotel itself looks spectacular from the outside, and is certainly comfortable enough inside, drinks around €11 for a large beer and glass of wine, we didn't have breakfast in our deal, and at €16 each we didn't bother, you can purchase outside easily enough, we didn't eat dinner at the hotel either, but a number of people did, and there were no complaints noticed.
Our room was pretty average, but fine, shame that the only thing we could see out of our window was a roof, very close, but its not like we would be spending much time in the room.
Very nice pool and spa facilities, can be popular, and the pool isn't that big, so you need a bit of luck, but worth a visit.
The staff are friendly and helpful, we only had issues on one night when for no apparent reason the bar service was poor, but lets just say that was a one off.
Amsterdam itself can be a hectic place to be, so it was actually quite nice to get out of it at the end of the day, so don't be put off by the hotel being outside Amsterdam, it has its plus points and travel is really very simple.
Having been to Amsterdam three times over the years I am not sure I will be coming back, certainly not in the foreseeable future, but if I do, I wouldn't hesitate to return here.
