We visited Volendam as part of a coach party in October of this year. Didnt know what to expect as the coach parked up in a small industrial estate and the driver announced we had arrived ! We disembarked, climbed a small flight of stairs onto the sea wall that holds back the waters from Volendam and you are met with the most amazing view. From there its a short 10 minute walk into main harbour area. It has all the usual shops selling the tourist stuff with the added benefit of having a host of restaurants selling fresh coffee, amazing apple cake and whipped cream. Best of all was the cod and chips with salad and a beer for 9 Euros and a sea front view. We loved the place so much that we told the coach driver that we would make our own way back to the hotel. What a beautiful friendly wee place.
