“Nice stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014 via mobile

The hotel should be 3 stars'. But rooms are clean, well equiped, wifi works without problem. The bathroom has not enough cosmetics but is also clean. Good breakfast. Nice dinners though menu is short. Very close to tulips' fields.

We stayed at the Hotel De Nachtegaal for only one night in April, 2013, after having arrived a day early before we could check into our rental cottage elsewhere. The one night stay reaffirmed by prior review of this property. The only two pros about this motel are the food and the location. The onsite restaurant has delicious food, although pricey. The location is key during tulip time from mid April until the first week of May, as it is the only property located in the middle of the bulb fields and with close proximity to Keukenhof. The room I stayed in was average, and needed renovation. It did have a modern flat screen television, and the bathroom was nice and clean, with plenty of hot water. That's it. The bedding was just okay. The staff were quite friendly, and allowed me use of the sauna to shower and change since I arrived too early to check in and had just flown in from the United States. The site has a casino on site. So, if location is your major factor, this place is for you, especially in the spring. Otherwise, I would stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: Stay on the ground floor if possible, due to sporadic wi-fi.

I've reviewed this hotel in detail already but this time I had 2 contrasting experiences.

Firstly, the evening dinner (with 2 work collegues) was outstanding - supreme flexibility, excellent quality... you could not ask any more.

But....

Next morning, I went to breakfast and what a sorry state.

Grubby preparation area
Very poor choice of food
Cold coffee
Poor layout (where ARE the plates ?)
No service to speak of...

Rooms are mid 80's style - sure, a nice flat screen TV in the room, but dated materials.

"5/10 - must try harder" - sorry

Room Tip: I was in 219 overlooking nothing - at least it was quiet.

Should have been a double bed but two singles shoved together. Little bit far out. Restaurant was fantastic just a tad expensive. Staff didn't seem aware of which bus to catch from the airport. Shuttle bus very expensive at €15 per person.

We had a meal in this hotel/restaurant, while we stayed in the hotel. The staff was very very friendly and considerate. We had a huge appetizer of a variety of small tapas. We had some main dishes too. Plates were to big to overlook these while the amount of food was exaggerated, while the quality so so. These plates must be for tourists and tourists only. The prices are not that cheap as we ended up with a bill for 4 people of € 125. Therefore the are better restaurants in the environment.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the first floor, so you won't be bothered by the parking cars.

My family stayed and occupied 3 rooms
we were told that they also served vegan and vegetarian food, but this was not the
case. The Hotel staff are friendly but service is slow and checking out also very slow
At breakfast, there only seemed one person serving coffee
They are definitely short staffed.
One of the nights, the fire alarm went off 3 times, and there was no proper organisation and children were distressed
The Management "need to get their act together" and will lose business
I completed a complaint form in May 2013 but have had no response

Room Tip: South side rooms are quiet
