Everything about this hotel - staff, decor, service, food, comfort, everything - oozes charm, elegance and sophistaication.
I arrived in the evening at nearby Driehuis train station and not knowing the area I hadn't realised there would be no taxi rank. I telephoned the hotel reception and the receptionsit organised a taxi for me. Within 20 minutes of arriving at Driehuis I was in the hotel reception checking in.
The stairs are steep, and with luggage they are not easy to navigate. I don't believe there was a lift, but the receptionist offered to help me.
My room, on the second (top) floor was not just spacious, it was huge. A sitting area larger than the average living room in a UK new build house, large corner suite, sideboard with television and dvd player (dvds available from reception at no extra cost). A large bed, comfy bedding. Full size desk with ample space to work and FREE high speed (and I mean high speed) wifi internet. The ensuite was also spacious, elegant and clean with lovely olive oil toiletries.
Breakfast is served in a parlour style lounge next to reception. There is a choice of Dutch or English (cooked) breakfast. I opted for Dutch both mornings and was presented with a bread basket, yoghurt, fruit, egg, cheese (cold meats also available), cereal, fresh juice, coffee and so on.
I ate in the hotel restaurant on the second night of my stay and was not disappointed - I will write a separate review.
If there was one thing I would add it would be tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom, but they aren't a show stopper and I will definitely stay at this hotel again if I am (even vaguely) in the area. I could rave about this hotel for pages and pages - but nothing I write here will do this hotel justice. Go and try it for yourself, I doubt you will be disappointed.
The local area: I am told there is a water taxi from nearby that gets into the centre of Amsterdam within 30 minutes and I am told there are plenty of cycle routes in the area. Certainly the beach isn't far and it is beautiful.
Hope you enjoy your stay at the Hotel Augusta!
I had a corner room on the top floor for 100 euros per night bed and breakfast. I am told all rooms...
