“Out of the way, yet easy to get to...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

This is a nice spot if you plan on visiting Haarlem and Amsterdam. You literally get out of the airport, walk across the street to bus stop 300 Haarlem. Make sure you buy a ticket from the driver. Take it to the Haarlem train station. Then take bus 2 Haarlem Noord and the stop says Stayokay. It drops you off steps away from the hostel. I strongly recommend getting an iAmsterdam or Holland card. It costs 2 Euros each time on the bus and 8.50 Euros round trip on the train each time. The cards cover transportation and other things. The other thing is to make sure you carry money with you if you think you need it. The nearest ATM is a 10 minute walk. There are two in the area but both were offline. And if you have no money and no card, you have to walk 30 minutes to get to the next ATM (head towards the train station).

As far as the hostel, I stayed in a four bunk room, but there are other options as well. I went during the slow season, so I had the room to myself. It was clean and comfortable. However, make sure the windows are closed and the heat is turned on, otherwise, the room is very cold during winter. There was hot water and good water pressure for showering. There was bedding and a duvet. The pillow and bed were very comfortable (pillows are soft not firm). No towels but you get buy one or bring one. They did give me a lock and a charger to use. There is free internet, if you leave your computer at home, there is a computer to use. Although, it was costly to use, 3 Euros for an hour. There was a nice breakfast in the morning, but no variety. It was basic cereal, wonderful bread, fruit, juices, tea and coffee. One nice thing was that you can help yourself to tea and coffee throughout the day. And the staff was very friendly and helpful. I also liked that it was a fairly quiet hotel. This could be that it was during the off season, but it was nice it was so quiet.

The only reason I didn't rank this place a five was that it is out of the way from bars, restaurants and other activities. However, if you have a family and want to be away from all the hustle and bustle, this is a good place.

Room Tip: Just make sure the windows are closed if you go during the cold season. Room 10 faces the street, bu...

All the StayOkay hostels have rooms for one or to persons with high quality sanitary. You can chose in almost every town.
Haarlem is one of the locations very near the shore of the North Sea wth a beautifull strand and the dunes. Their are bikes to rent and you can travel throug a lot of National Parks.

Room Tip: Possible to book a singel room for one person. average rooms with toilet and shower. for €45 a good...

I stayed 4 nights in November and the hostel was warm despite it being cold and windy outside. Not my first visit and I would return again. Staff very helpful and friendly. Good bar.
Although rather dated the hostel remains very clean. Lockers in room - you provide your own padlock. Excellent breakfasts, fresh produce, self-service with good orange juice and coffee. Pleasant location backing onto a park. Bird-spotting an added treat.
Frequent buses to/from Haarlem station (Route 2) stop outside (bus stop 'Stayokay') and run until just after midnight. Half-hourly trains to and from Santpoort Suid (take subway between hostel and the canal, go under the main road then just follow the canal to the train station less than 10 min walk) will take you to Haarlem (2 short stops) or Amsterdam, a further 15mins journey on the same train. Or you can go north and connect with line to Alkmaar.
A very good base from which to visit Haarlem (bus 300 from Schiphol), a lovely small city with much to offer the visitor in terms of shopping and good cafes, bars and restaurants. Very handy for the bulbfields in springtime.

Room Tip: When busy, the 4-bed dorms make for a less-disturbed night's sleep than the 10-bed dorms.

This hostel, although run as a chain, does not have that feel. The owners were incredibly friendly and hospitable, the beds were extremely comfortable and the provided breakfast is like no other. Not to mention the free tea and coffee the was constantly available. We happened to stay their on Netherlands neighbour day and hence the owner treated me and 11 of my friends to a delicious meal which was probably the nicest gesture I have ever received for a hostel. Without a doubt 5 stars! Great bang for your buck.

Very good place to stay! I have found this place by accident. It was good choice. After my first night I have decided to stay there another one. Good, quite location.
Staff was friendly. Answered to all my questions and was always helpful.
Room, toilet and shower room very clean. Lockers in every room (make sure you bring padlock).
Definitely recommend this hostel and city Haarlem to everyone!

Big, spacious, the breakfast is good + there's a decent choice, clean rooms and bathrooms.
However, the staff was less friendly compared to other hostels I stayed in, more polite - addequate if you like to be treated as a customer and not as a friend.
Though they have a bar with billiards or smth like that, the atmosphere is not as relaxed and homely as elsewhere. It is also pretty far away from the centre, but easy reachable by bus which stops right in front of the hostel.

When arriving, if you are having dinner there, or even if you haven't planned to, do it. The food they serve is wonderful! Well thought out buffet there will be something for everyone and it will taste amazing! The corridors aren't exactly clean, due to spillages, but the rooms are very tidy and the bathrooms also. They have a bar where you can have a drink, or just generally sit and relax. Right next to ride allows for a lovely walk and close to shops.

Room Tip: If you have a lot of luggage, choose downstairs as there is no elevator. Take your own towel.
