My partner and I decided Amsterdam would be a cheap yet ideal weekend retreat for the Easter break but leaving the accomodation to the last minute cost us. Failing to find suitable accomodation at a reasonable price we decided to choose the neighbouring city of Haarlem and took a punt on the Van Der Valk hotel and one of its jacuzzi suites.

The suites are amazing and i've never experienced my own jacuzzi and flipping waterbed. This one night cost 150 euros which may seem a lot but this is easter weekend and compared to the one night we had for 125 euros in a flee pit dump in the old quarter of Amsterdam this was the just the ticket. Check the pictures and you'll see these are nice suites which offer you the 'Footballers Wives' lifestyle for the night!

The only downside apart from the exterior looks is the location. It's in the south of Haarlem which means a 20minute walk to the town centre and double that to the train station.

My wife and I along with our 2 children aged 12 and 10 stayed at this hotel for 4 nights at Easter time. The staff were rude, the facilities were seriously lacking for a 4 star hotel. The hotel is not close to anything and only for the fact that we had hired a car it would have been a disaster. There are no coffee or tea facilities in the room nor a mini fridge. The sauna and steam room kept poor hours.In general the rude staff ruined the stay and the substandard facilities means that we would never consider staying here again especially as it was expensive.

from schiphol airport, there is a bus service to haarlem which has a stop very close to the hotel. if one does not wish to walk into the centre of haarlem or to the station, there are buses one can take.
very helpful staff at the reception.
the room is quiet and big with a big bathroom.
