“Absolutely love this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

I Absolutely loved this place! As soon as we walked in the door of the restaurant we were greeted by the owner and his wife Ann, I think (I can't remember his name) and he made us feel so at home, like we were a part of his family. He took our luggage and fixed us some coffee and a dessert and told us to rest while he took our luggage up to the room. Once we finished with our coffee and pie he took us up stairs. The stairs are VERY small and windy, I am so thankful he carried our luggage because we could not have taken it up, but it just added to the quaintness of the place. We were in room 3 and it was perfect. The room was a good size and the window looked out on the market. We kept the curtains open and just watched people riding their bikes and coming and going every time we were in the room, it was a very busy place. The bathroom was small but it was very pretty, updated and clean. The toiletries were very nice and there was a hairdryer and plenty of towels in the wardrobe. There was a mini fridge right outside our door full of pop, and fruit, and other things and coffee, tea and water on the second landing. The location is perfect, right on the Grot market square, it is just wonderful. We took the train to Haarlem and it is a short walk from the train to L'Anders. We ate in the restaurant every meal and it was the most wonderful food, everything we ate was delicious and beautiful! I think they take the last kitchen order at 8:30pm. Everyone we met in the restaurant was very friendly and so pleasant it just made us want to keep coming back. The breakfast is served 10-12 but when we had to leave early to catch our train, they fixed us a wonderful lunch to take with us. The square was a little noisy at night, especially since we were there on the football playoffs, but we had a great time watching everyone enjoy the game on the big screen. Haarlem is a wonderful place and L'Anders was the perfect place to stay, I wish I could go back!

Room Tip: Room 3 was right on the square and we loved it. It was a little noisy but we kept our window open a...

Good location and easy to locate. Stayed in room 4 (attic room) if you are tall this room is not for you! When getting out of bed you cannot stand up straight and I'm only 5'7", had to be very careful! First morning started out rough, no coffee or cappuccino, machine was down, no yogurt or granola offered. Second morning we had the pleasure of meeting Anna, she was very pleasant and we had better service, coffee, yogurt and granola were offered to us. Anna was also very informative and always had a smile on her face. We really enjoyed the water and soft drinks available at any time in the fridge. We enjoyed our stay in Harlem, and will return.

Room Tip: Attic room has low ceilings and no curtains in window over bed or in the bathroom.

We have been to Haarlem a few times, and this was the first time we stayed at the L'Anders. Absolutely loved it, next time we will not look any further, we will go back to this same place and ask for the same room, number 1. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, food was awesome, ambiance was perfect, great terrasse on the square. Price was very reasonable, and the room 1 was perfect, very spacious, more like a mini suite, with a nice view on the square. Big plus that was not expected, the fridge on the second floor with pop, water and wine free to use, that was greatly appreciated. You can also put your own drinks and snacks in it. Don't forget to write your name on your stuff. Breakfast was included, very nice on the terasse and we really liked that it was served from 1000 to noon, so for those like us who like to sleep late it is perfect. Also if your flight is early in the morning they will prepare a bag with sandwitch and stuff in it. Square can be a bit Noisy especially on football nights, so better you sleep with earplugs, and also be careful in the stairs going to the fridge, a bit of a challenge going down with drinks when you can't hold the ramp. All in all, will come back for sure, loved it and highly recommend it. Thank you!!

BTW, tried to attach some pictures, for some the website is not allowing me...

Room Tip: Pick a room with view on square, very nice!

A small and quaint B&B that is on the main square. By small I mean there are only 4 rooms. Breakfast is in the bar/restaurant and was always plentiful. The owners and staff were helpful and pleasant at all times. The only drawback is there ins't a lift, just some very narrow stairs which is typical of 16th century Dutch buildings. However, having said that, the staff carried our bags up and down the stairs for us. Without them we would not have made it. One other drawback is that on market days there is the noise of putting up the booths. They do however provide you with earplugs which help immensely. Will return someday.

My son and I stayed here for three nights in early April. We found Haarlem to be a great place to visit and a great base for visiting other places including Keukenhoff, Amsterdam, and Alkmaar. The price was excellent and any negatives to this B&B could be quickly dismissed when we considered what we were paying. We were not able to get the same room for all three nights so we stayed in Room 2 (the back room on the second floor) the first night and then in Room 1 (the front room on the second floor) for the next two nights. Each room had its advantages. Room 2 was much quieter but was smaller and only had one bed. Room 1 was much louder and had a smaller bathroom but had two beds and was very large. I think that the beds could have been configured differently to allow for a third bed. While the room was loud, earplugs were provided and we found it somewhat pleasant to listen to the sounds of the square at night and again as the city woke up in the morning. The only time it was a problem was on Saturday morning when the market was being set up. The metal tent poles were clanging against the square but walking out the front door and into the market largely made up for the early morning wake up. Breakfast is served fairly late but on the days that we wanted to get an early start, they packed sandwiches for us. In conclusions, if you want a charming place to stay directly on the square then B&B L'Anders is great. With the location comes some noise but if you are able to accept it as listening to the square fall asleep at night and wake up the next morning then it becomes part of the experience. Also, the price was excellent which went a long way toward making it enjoyable.

This time last week we had arrived at Schipol airport and ridden the 300 Bus into Haarlem. It was so easy, we could pay cash, 5 euros each, and it took about 35 minutes. We got off at the stop just past the big Art Deco V and D store and walked along the street directly opposite the store. This took us to the Grote Markt where we easily found L'Anders. Thanks to trip advisor reviews we had high expectations and were not disappointed. We were made to feel very welcome and given lots of useful information about the city. We stayed in room 2 which was large, clean and comfortable. Yes, the stairs were steep but we were in Holland and soon got used to them, but we did take it carefully( well we are in our 60s) Room 2 was a quiet room at the back but because of this had no view, next time (and there will be a next time,) we will hopefully have a room facing the square.
There was complimentary water , tea, coffee etc on the landing outside which was most welcome
and unexpected. The staff at L'Anders could not have been nicer we were even given free tasty treats to try with our beers and the meal we ate in the evening was extremely good and great value for money. The breakfast was fantastic and beautifully presented with the ever attentive staff offering more if we should need it. Our stay in this beautiful city was made all the more enjoyable
by l'Anders, it's position, it's atmosphere and above all it's staff! Can't wait to visit again soon!

Flew in to Amsterdam then took the 300 bus from the Airport to Haarlem -- google maps very confusing as they had walking instructions that took us much past the accommodation -- check in was good - stairs very very very steep and narrow and two sets -- so if mobility issues then is a problem -- no elevator -- however this is not all that unusual -- we had room 4 - small room and the walls are steep so have to be careful getting out of one side of the bed. Bathroom small and shower (only) very small and little room to move ( curtain surrounds you in the shower and seems to enjoy getting attached to you) Beds comfortable -- two singles - and very small desk area -TV did not work at all - but not there to watch tv -- internet was good -- restaurant very good -- people there very good -- one morning we had plans to leave before breakfast - they make up lovely sandwiches - a couple of GREAT pieces of apple pie - couple of oranges and some juice -- had breakfast with them the next day - some bread cheese and meat --very fresh -- decent place to stay - would stay there again -- by North American standards needs work - but from what I can tell very good for Haarlem - would agree quaint would be a good description
