“Tired hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

I stayed at the Golden Tulip Lion D'Or for one night due to the proximity to an office.

The hotel is dated, the room was very large but faced the train station therefore was awfully bright at night due to the outside lights. The bed was awful - very soft and narrow.

We had two nights here 23-24 June and were very happy with the room service and breakfast. Staff extremely helpfull. Hope to stay here again in the future.
Great location next to station where a trip to Amsterdam is only a few minutes away.

Stayed there for 2 nights. The hotel itself is very dated. Rooms are tired. The bar is not satisfactory. The breakfast was nothing exciting, with big jars of jam and nutella where everyone gets to put their cuttlery in. Sausages were'nt nice, there was a big plate for you to make your eggs yourself.
The location is good however, not too far of the city centre. And the staff were very friendly and helpfull.
All in all very expensive for a very mediocre hotel. Not worth its 4 star rating.

This hotel is perfectly situated for access to the train into Amsterdam. The rooms are clean and comfortable. A TV with cable and free Wi-Fi internet is provided. A small safe is also provided for all you valuables. As with most European hotels expect to have to leave your key at the front desk before you depart the hotel for the day. If you have an extra day explore Haarlem too, it is a nice city as well and this hotel, while on the outskirts is a wonderful starting point.

We stayed in this hotel in may 2013 .Its a clean well maintained spot with excellent and friendly staff.Tthe rooms are somewhat dated but very clean and comfortable.Haarlem is a lovely town and the town centre is 5 mins away. However the real attraction is the proximity to the train station which has trains leaving every 15 mins to Amsterdam centraal station,a 15/20 min journey. This is a relatively inexpensive base for a trip to Amsterdaam. We found the dutch people very friendly and really enjoyed our trip.We used the ryanair flight to Eindhoven which meant a 20 min bus ride to Eindhoven Train station and a 1 hr 20 min train journey to Amsterdaam centraal station (39 return). It was cheaper than flying to Amsterdam direct but quite a long journey. We were 3 lads going to a match ,so it wasnt a problem, but if i were on a family trip I would travel direct.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in April. Since it is across the street from the train station, the location is convenient for early morning travel to the Aalsmeer Flower Auction (bus) or the Keukenhof Gardens (train, then bus). Prices are cheaper than in Amsterdam. The hotel front desk staff were very helpful. When they learned we had to leave for Aalsmeer before the breakfast buffet opened, they had generous sack lunches prepared for us to take. They provided good suggestions on places to eat. The room was adequate, not distinctive. One downside was that the train station open area seems to draw revelers on Friday and Saturday nights, so that even though our room was toward the back of the hotel, we could hear people outside in the early morning hours. Surprising to us, Haarlem was a very nice town to visit with nice restaurants, museums and interesting St. Bavo Church.

This is a little gem conveniently located across from the train station in Haarlem. The rooms are recently renovated, the wireless internet is free and works, the restaurant and bar are really good and the service is great. The front desk people were very helpful with advice and a variety of little things that make a stay in a hotel much more comfortable. Beds are comfortable and the rooms are quiet. Price was quite reasonable also but why so stingy with the body products?
