“Slow service but good food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

If your not starving or impatient, a nice restaurant with decent food. It takes the staff for ever to take an order and serve drinks and food. We like the food mainly because the dishes made containing chicken are made with chicken thighs, which is much better then filet (filet tends to be dry and though!). The food is not very spicy, but you can ask the cook to spice it up. Some languages barriers have to be crossed as part of the staff speaks/understands hardly any Dutch or English or speaks with a very heavy Indian accent.

“rude and arrogant staff!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2012

We decided to step in here one evening because we genuinely like Indian cuisine. The restaurant was empty except for a table that was occupied by a group of people. When we entered no one even bothered telling us where we could sit so we decided to settle down on a table quite close to the exit. We took off our coats and looked around for someone to bring us a menu card. An arrogant man walked by, plopped the cards on the table and asked us what we wanted to drink. We requested that we look at the menu first and perhaps he could come back in 5 minutes. He never left the table, kept looking at us like we were not welcome at his restaurant. We decided to order two drinks and two starters to begin with. He looked at us and said, "if that's all you are going to order then you can't eat here!". I was rather taken aback and told him, we would order the main course once he got our starters but he refused to move and repeated rudely that he expected the bill at our table to be a certain amount and if we were not going to order now that we could leave! I have never been so insulted in my life! We have eaten at some really classy and upmarket places and this is not the kind of hospitality one expects from a restaurant. These people have a lot to learn about the hospitality business. The empty tables should have warned us I guess!

“Indian food - "the light version"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2011

This restaurant location is very convenient - within a short walk from the Carlton hotel. It has been here for more than 20 years and we have visited it several times over the last 4-5 years. The menu is what you would typically expect from an Indian restaurant. It is a small restaurant and service can be slow at times. The wine is okay, but not awesome. If you like hot food you need to let them know or you will get an Indian meal that is a little less spicy than you'd expect if you are used to eating Indian food on a regular basis and in countries such as India, the UK and South Africa. We have been here with a group of 6 people once and it didn't go so smoothly. Smaller groups - about 4 - seem to work best.
It is, in my humble opinion, not the best Indian restaurant in Haarlem, but it's good enough.
