“Malts Hotel, Haarlem.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

This was our first time to Haarlem & staying at the Malts B&B was perfect for us (me & my sister). The price was really good considering it's location & quality. It is right in the centre on a beautiful & happening street called Ziljstraat. The shops on our street and those neighbouring us were really fantastic! We had come to see the Corrie Ten Boom House/Museum which was literally round the corner! After reading her books (the most famous one being 'The Hiding Place'), it was really amazing to see the hiding place for ourselves. We were able to see the wall cavity where the jews and resistance workers hid during the Nazi Raid. As we were off the main town square (Grote Markt) everything was so close to us. The couple who own the B&B were so lovely, friendly & helpful, making sure we had everything we needed & helping us with every query, showing us in detail how to get everywhere we wanted to go. We had some great conversations with them! Local attractions included the Adriaane windmill with a guided tour. The walk from the Malts to the windmill was wonderful, along the canal we saw another lovely part of town. On the way to the windmill is the Teylers museum where we saw an excellent exhibit of Rembrandts etchings. Frankestraat was a really good street for restaurants including De Lachende Javaan (the laughing man from Java) which was so excellent I would say that dinner there is a must on a visit to Haarlem. Overall, our Christmas trip to Haarlem was really great! I would stay at the Malts again.

Room Tip: There were lots of stairs (as in all Haarlem houses) so if anyone has a problem with stairs I would...

This hotel is located an easy train ride outside of Amsterdam. Taxi from the airport is about 20 euros. The town of Haarlem is extremely picturesque and is rich in history. Walking is a great way to experience the town. The staff is friendly, eager to please and knowledgeable about the town. There is no elevator but the staff can help with luggage if needed. Breakfast is great and in an inviting atmosphere. We would return in a flash!!

Go no further than B&B Malts, Zijlstraat, Haarlem The Netherlands
My husband and I stayed there for 4 nights recently... we became part of the furniture.
The hospitality of the owners, Hank and Ann Marie was what every B&B stayer hopes for but doesn't often receive... they were THERE for us... when we needed advice, a cheerful chat at breakfast... or just asking after our stay... always listening as if we were the only people they were going to meet that week. The location is perfect for fantastic Haarlem...The beds comfortable, the ambience very pleasant... and we look forward to returning and seeing how they have put their own mark on a very well established superb B&B. Room Tip: There ARE stairs, so choose a room lower down if you are not fit. Its a typical European upstairs d...

Hank & Ann Marie were an extremely delightful couple to have us liaised with, as they went out of the way to accommodate to our inquiries very patiently...& surprised us with a brief introduction to Haarlem & its surrounding areas the moment we arrived! Malts Location was fairly easy to find based on earlier traveller reviews..

Although we only stayed for 2d 1n, Breakfast was AMAZING with a fairly simple made splendid selection of cheeses, hams, & breads, jams - with freshly brewed coffee & crushed orange juice, squeezed just a few minutes before breakfast ! whilst the Rooms were VERY Comfortably prepared, with sufficient shower facilities - especially after a much needed rest after a long day out!

I will DEFINITELY recommend Malts B&B to anyone wanting to experience a true Hollanders hospitality! & would certainly look to make a return trip myself too at some point!
Choosing to stay in Haarlem, and at Malts, was the best travelling decision to a foreign country which one could make!

Thank you MALTS for making this stay a highlight for my family & I , despite it being very short this round!

Owners very helpful by provided information on tourist location and transportation to take. They even printed copy of Haarlem map for their guests! Wish we have stay more days. Thanks for your hospitality Annemarie and Henks.

First off, the room we had was really small. But, we were not in the room much and its size was out-weighed by this hotel's great location and friendly owners. Annemarie and Henk were super hosts. Great daily breakfast, great hotel location (down the street from the Makt) and quiet room. At first I thought the hotel was above a bar (looking at a photo online), but it is only above a quiet coffee shop -- that serves fantastic hot chocolate. We spent two weeks in The Netherlands and Belgium and Haarlem was my favorite place and my stay at Hotel Malts helped make it great. Thanks Annemarie and Henk

Room Tip: Not sure if the rooms on the street were noisy, but we always just ask for a quiet room. Again, no...

I stayed in Haarlem one week at the end of may (honeymoon..with wife and our little son!).
Malts B&B offered us a comfortable accommodation in a flat not so far from the hotel.
Very beautiful (a part from the steep stairs, typical of Holland houses!) and with a nice view on the channel.
So we do hope to come to Holland again and for sure we will ask for Malts B&B services.
