“Die Port van Cleve (Enkhuizen)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

We booked this hotel for Valentines weekend, and were not disappointed by the level of service and kind attention by the staff. The food was particularly memorable and delicious.

The less satisfactory points were that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment, and the contractors could have cleaned up a better after themselves on our floor and in the lift, and a Jacuzzi in the suite that did not work, however, overall we had a great time and would certainly book again.

Room Tip: choose the rooms with the French windows or balcony with harbour view

Welcoming staff, well equipped rooms, excellent food, great location.

We stopped by here after a week in Amsterdam, what a relief. A very peaceful harbour location in, what's becoming, a first class hotel. The staff was most helpful and charming. They told us about the transformation the place has undergone and what is still to come. It sounds exciting.

They are on an historic strip of activity with many various, eclectic houses along the dyke, interspersed with bars and cafés. The whole area is great to explore from the harbours to the outside museum of Dutch life in the past.

The room was large, clean, with a modern bathroom and opening windows looking out onto the harbour. The restaurant was a bit formal but the staff was down to earth and pleasant. Many good choices of food and my wife and I chose fish dishes. Excellent. So was breakfast the next morning - everything you could want for Dutch breakfast including mini packages of Hagel.

Yes, we would definitely go back.

I have to correct some criticisms from past reviews: The first time we stayed was two years ago and although we enjoyed our two night stay it is true to say that the place was due for modernisation. That didn't stop us from returning this year and what a surprise - rooms redecorated and refurbished, a new chef who cooked us two delicious dishes on Sunday evening and lovely friendly staff. Enkhuizen is a delightful place and I'm certain that we shall be staying at Die Port van Cleve again and again and!

We did like the hotel, we did like our room, which was on the third floor, we were told there was a lift but we didn't use it ....room was very nice with a low beamed ceiling, there was a..flat screen TV, mini-bar, a comfy bed..nice bathroom with a shower, all clean and very tastefully decorated..obviously the hotel had undergone a complete renovation recently..breakfast was good, too .. the location is simply stunning...the hotel is located on the Dijk, you can have a drink or a bite sitting outside on the terrace in comfy sofas and enjoy the views of the harbour opposite, very picturesque!...if only the staff would be more friendly or attentive, it could be near perfect..when we arrived we had to wait endlessly at the reception, when finally somebody turned up he was quite curt with us, NO welcome, no explanation about breakfast etc..just the keys and room nr., and off he was...same thing at the bar later in the evening..when we came in a girl was cleaning the coffee machine, she simply ignored us..we even had to ask HER if somebody was in charge ...same again next morning on checking out..endless waiting at the reception... we like a relaxed atmosphere, but a little more attention would make it the perfect stay!

We spent 2 nights in this hotel. It is next to the harbour in the center of Enkhuizen. The hotel is renewed and that job is well done. The beds are good and have a lenght of at least 210cm. The room is clean and have plenty power outlets to charge your iPhone and camera. The bathroom is very neat too with a great shower. Minor issue: there are no hooks and there is no planchet to put your items on. The hotel is very quiet. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is excellent with fresh orange juice. The Wifi is free and fast.
In short a great hotel to stay.

I have stayed here several times over the past few years for the perfect location of the hotel.
They have just completed a full remodel with great updates to the rooms. Better beds, tiled bathrooms with large showers, new televisions, etc.
They have also redesigned the lobby and restaurant, and the food is great!
What an improvement!!

Didn't research the fact that this hotel was just minutes from the train station. Got conned by an Indian taxi driver into paying off the meter so beware! Having said that, this hotel is okay. Staff are generally polite bar 1 male person who was snooty! We were given a room on the first floor which was a bi-level room ie: the bed was on the lower floor. It was clean, modern and had fresh amenities. All that you would expect a 4 star hotel to have. Wifi was free but so slow! It could get quite noisy at night cause the room was facing the front street. No other complains about the room as it was cleaned well on a daily basis. Breakfast was okay except there was only one elderly guy working there and he looked for the most part extremely unhappy in his job. Never a smile nor a friendly nod thus making the mood in the room somewhat as gloomy as the weather outside! Location of hotel is pretty good.
