We have just returned from a 2 week trip from Europe and regarding Amsterdam, some pointers for those interested.
Accommodation. Finding cheap accommodation was a tough cookie. Room sizes were small, serious steep stairs, noise etc were 90% of the complaints we read on the internet prior to booking. And then we found AmsterHome on Damrak. What a joy!
The rooms were large, believe me. They were modern, the staff very helpful and the stairs only a few. The noise is droned out because of doudle windows so once closed, you don't hear a thing. Fine the Sex Museum is around the corner but so what. You are only about 200m from the station and bus terminal. Welldone AmsterHome, it was great staying there.
What to do? Try the Scooter Experience. This was the highlight of our trip and worth every penny spent. The Scooter Experience is a must.
Pannekoekenhuis. What a disappointment, they were closed at 7pm on a Tuesday.
Oh please and just don't go eating at Focking Chicken Restaurant - what a rip-off as even KFC tastes much better at half the price. Sauces (which costs extra) are cr#p that they buy at supermarkets (off the shelf stuff) and not worth a penny.
Buying T-Shirts? The further you go down Damrak the cheaper they get and we ended up paying €10 per shirt as opposed to 20.
